I've been through about 3 pairs of tongs since buying my egg and I can't seem to find a pair that's heavy duty enough. Anyone have reliable, tried and true recommendations??

My wife gave me a set of grill tools from William Sonoma. I haven't had any problems with them.1 large BGE, Spartanburg SC

I bought these around 2 years ago, I use the hell out of them, and they are all still working perfectly. They are extra long.

Note: the above do not lock. Professional chefs and kitchens to not buy the ones that lock because it's another thing to fumble with when you're trying to use them.

I have the same set and love them. The only nit I can pick about them is that they get @#@$ing HOT if they sit in the sun. I try to cover them with a pot holder if it is very sunny. If they had silicone grips, but not ends, they would be dang near perfect!

first cook in the spring when the snow pile it sits under finally melts. its so wet in maine in the spring the moisture oozes out in droves. it washed off to shiny green with the next heavey rainfall. looks horrible when you see it happening. those tongs stand the test of time, im pretty sure those date back to the 1950's and were my great grandmothers

That price is for a 3-pack, shipped for under $10. And the extra long length keeps you farther away from the heat. Same ones I used when I cooked at a restaurant.

I have used Volrath for decades -- professional grade, dishwasher safe, multiple sizes and reasonably priced. They are readily available at GFS-Gordon Food Service.IL

I wonder how they will hold up to the brush fire that is about to be ignited beneath them!I love that picture.

I know I sound like a geek, but the ones I listed are 1.2mm thick stainless. The Vollrath are 0.95mm stainless. Plus they cost 2-3x for 16". I have some wood handled tongs - they eventually fall apart in the dishwasher, again, you don't see those in professional kitchens for that reason - takes more time to hand wash stuff.

Oh damn ... got to agree with @nolaegghead again. I use this pair of tongs:

They are great and I really like them ... ~1.1mm thick. But, one time through the dishwasher and the wood faded ... now they get hand washed.

@nolaegghead Nola you are a wealth of knowledge! I went to Restaurant Depot last night and they had a whole section of tongs, almost none were locking, none with wooden handles.Chicago, IL - Large and Small BGE - Weber Gasser and Kettle -
Thanks everyone! I ordered a pair of no frills stainless chef style tongs (http://www.amazon.com/Adcraft-XHT-16-Extra-Stainless-Utility/dp/B004NG9FVM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1436560171&sr=8-1&keywords=restaurant+tongs). We'll see how they turn out!Denver, CO
