Picked up a Cast Iron Griddle

I cook a lot of vegetables and do a lot of baking on the Large BGE, so I figure that a griddle would be very handy. I did find a thread titled something like "least used accessories" in which the griddle was prominently features as an item that many have used once and then shelved. However, after seasoning it today, I used it to grill some asparagus. My thinking is that the griddle will be great on veggies that don't have a lot of moisture to lose; for example, by the time the asparagus stalks are done on the regular grid, the more delicate heads have often taken too much heat. The griddle seems to solve that issue. This is actually the KJ CI griddle. I looked at both the BGE and KJ versions and really prefer the KJ version. I also really like the lift and separate system divide and concur system divide and conquer system, and plan to incorporate the direct grid side with the griddle on indirect to make things like grilled fruit baked items and grilled vegetable lasagnas. My dealer is getting the necessary parts of the system (rack, half grid, and halved heat deflector) for me.

Good idea. I often do asparagas on the gasser with my Lodge griddle for exactly the reasons you state.Delta B.C. - Whiskey and steak, because no good story ever started with someone having a salad!

Most accessories do have useful purposes, just a lot of us get overzealous with hype and buy things without regard to how we cook. You look like you have a winner there. I keep putting the asparagus on parallel with the grate and it falls through. I'll never learn.

I use the cast iron half moon a lot. Fish, veggies, tater tots, indirect piece then sear on it, etc....

I was looking at cast iron skillets yesterday but held off because I wasn't positive how big I could go with my Classic Joe, which I believe is the equivalent of the large BGE. Would a 12" skillet work? I was looking at 10" but that seems too small to even bother with.--Because I'm like ice, buddy. When I don't like you, you've got problems.

@clemsontyger97 I have a lodge 12" with a decent sized handle and it fits my large. Use it all the time for veggies, potatoes and steaksMemphis, TN ----> Chattanooga, TN

if it doesn't fit you can cut off the handle if you don't mind 'ruining' it like this guy did
