Minnesota/Canada Boundary Waters Camping

I brought the large egg camping this past weekend up in the boundary waters in northern Minnesota. It's a place that's way off the grid. It's about 4 hours north of the Twin Cities and another 40 minutes down a dirt road. Super quiet with beautiful surroundings. We did some canoeing while up there. (No motors allowed. Canoes only) We came back and did a turkey and venison chops. I didn't get any pictures of the chops but did remember for the turkey

Very cool! That is my kind of camping. It looks like a great peaceful spot. I'm assuming it is not packed full of RV's running generators like most camp sites
. Which came first the chicken or the egg? I egged the chicken and then I ate his leg. -
Nothing better than this. Reminds me of Cranberry Lake in NY(no motorized anything)
-
Reminds me of a place in Maine I used to go to. Motors were okay, but it doesn't matter when you are the only one there!!
Bet you were the only guy on the lake enjoying a turkey dinner!
Black flies out yet?I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

I have a lot of great memory's in the boundary waters with my father. Remember some of the portages we had to make to get to some of the remote places. Great time of year before the bugs come and take you away.Plumbers local 130 chicago. Why do today what you can do tomorrow

Thanks @SmokeyPitt You kind of forget what dead silence is like here in the cities. It's nice to clear your head out in the middle of nowhere every once in awhileSmokeyPitt said:Very cool! I love it up there. My buddy has a lake cabin between Walker and Bemidji.

@Eggcelsior I took a moment when I was canoeing to take everything in and during that moment I could hear the water drops falling of my paddle and hitting the top surface of the lake. So quite and peacefulEggcelsior said:Nothing better than this. Reminds me of Cranberry Lake in NY(no motorized anything)"The pig is an amazing animal. You feed a pig an apple and it makes bacon. @Carolina Q The turkey was a little rediculous but it's been in my freezer since last Thanksgiving and finally had enough people to eat it! No flies yet. I only noticed a couple mosquitos where in a few months they would be by the thosands. Still too chilli for them yetCarolina Q said:Reminds me of a place in Maine I used to go to. @Roadpuke0 Very cool! Some of those portages aren't so fun! Very few bugs which was nice. I can't imagine the middle of the summer up that way. Swimming would be nice thoughRoadpuke0 said:I have a lot of great memory's in the boundary waters with my father. Remember some of the portages we had to make to get to some of the remote places. @DoubleEgger Very nice! The winter's suck here but it's worth the trade off. Even the snow can look really cool up in the woods. We have 25+ eggheads meet up every winter at a lodge just outside Bemidji. Drink and eat all weekend long!!!DoubleEgger said:I love it up there. During my 3-year station at Grand Forks AFB, spent many a weekend and a few weeks up there. As long as you can avoid the mosquitoes, it's heaven!

@stemc33 We had some people in the group catch a few northerns and walleye. I think they ended up cooking them over the grate on the fire pitstemc33 said:What a get away. @Botch Nice! We have gone the last couple years and have made it a 3 day weekend. I definitely could have spent more time up there if given. Nice to get unpluggedBotch said:During my 3-year station at Grand Forks AFB, spent many a weekend and a few weeks up there. That's awesome. I see the pics at the cabin of winter when it's -30F. I want to experience that kind of cold one day. Ice fishing looks pretty cool too.WeberWho? said:

@DoubleEgger You get a whole new definition of cold when you get up in northern Minnesota during winter. Your damn teeth even get cold and feel like their numb. I wouldn't trade it for any other place though. Get up here in February with a few of us eggheads and brave the cold. We will show you the ropes!DoubleEgger said:

I might have to take you up on the offer. I know to navigate the gigantic Bemidji airport!

My buddy's place is on Steamboat Lake if you happen to know that one.... -

I'm don't know the city of Bemidji that great so I'm not too familiar with the names of the lakes. If you're looking for something to do in February definitely give a shout

Ice fishing in Minnesota can involve snowplowed "roads" across lakes, with street signs at the intersections to tell where your fishhouse is; it's quite a different world!
I'm not an ice-fisherman, but love photography and spent many a cold hike shooting deer and moose up there. Miss that world.Counting to ten only makes it Premeditated.

That's so true about street signs and intersections. How funny is that. When going to Ice Fest last February we drove right by Mille Lacs lake and Ducks Unlimited sponsored an Ice Fishing event the same weekend. I think they had more houses on the lake then they had in town.Botch said:

Nice! That is how I like to spend my summers as well.
Mad props for bringing a large egg with you. Question, wouldn't all those great smells attract visitors at night? I'm used to camping up in grizzly country, so maybe I'm overly cautious.Phoenix -

lol, I am a couple hours north of where you camped and do this kind of thing every weekend, and I was honestly just thinking for a change I was going to head down to the twin cities for a weekend.
-
@blasting I didn't see too many animals when camping. A few deer along the way. They did have warning signs for bears but animal sightings were limited. The dog with us probably kept some of the smaller animals awayblasting said:Nice! That is how I like to spend my summers as well.
