There were several discussions on this in early March. Sad but true.Southeast Florida - LBGE
In cooking, often we implement steps for which we have no explanations other than ‘that’s what everybody else does’ or ‘that’s what I have been told.’ Dare to think for yourself. -

LOL - I have only posted there twice, but used RRP there as well. Seeing that nobody ever replied I assumed they thought I was the law snooping around! I even wrote to the C of C there and never got a response!Jeepster47 said:Hey @RRP , what's your screen name on the Yellville forum?

I believe I remember on a previous post they were closing. I picked up 4 bags from my dealer yesterday. I asked him about it. He was told by a guy at OO that they were going to make exclusively for Hasty Bake.Henderson TN. 1 large BGE, 1 Webber Gasser (recently seems to have converted into a warming oven)

That sounds like a lot of freaky stuff goes on Yellville.RRP said:

Louisville, GA - 2 Large BGE's -
I think someone should start an annual Eggfest there...LBGE (still waitin' for my free T-Shirt), DIgiQ DX2 (In Blue, cause it's the fastest), Heavy Duty Kick Ash Basket, Mc Farland, WI.

If it wasn't for my BGE I'd have no use for my backyard... -
Anybody out there know if @RRP is a snitch or is he cool to hang out with?

and advertise it as "Meet Yellsville's Hos and Meth dealers while you enjoy eating BBQ"! No need to dress up nor wear your dentures - it's casual here!XC242 said:I think someone should start an annual Eggfest there...Re-gasketing the USA one yard at a time -

Here's a response I got from Hasty Bake just yesterday:
Mahenryak Writes:
Is Hasty-Bake acquiring the Ozark Oak Charcoal Co. lump charcoal? There are a lot of fans of this lump out there that are trying to find its new label?
Hasty Bake Writes:'We wish we were the ones that acquired them. They are, or were, our supplier for our private label. Unfortunately, Royal oak bought a bunch of the smaller plants, therefore putting a bunch of us in a tailspin right before grilling season started. We actually will no longer have the hasty bake private label from ozark oak charcoal and we aren't quite sure what solution we will be able to come up with. The problem is, we don't know where they will be distributing the bags from the ozark plant.'

Hmmm...so the theory that OO is destined to become BGE lump might be a possibility. If RO now owns the OO facility, and RO supplies BGE lump...mahenryak said:Here's a response I got from Hasty Bake just yesterday:

I followed the response up until the last line of:
The problem is, we don't know where they will be distributing the bags from the ozark plant.
WHO is THEY?
Re-gasketing the USA one yard at a time -
Good question. I'm not sure, either, but when I first read it I took it to simply mean that HB is stating that they, too, are basically in the dark as to what RO's distribution plans might be. For example, HB doesn't know if there will be an opportunity for anyone else to buy any more product or if RO will be wanting to maintain exclusivity. Again, not sure. The response was sent from an iPhone so maybe this might help explain the ambiguity.RRP said:I followed the response up until the last line of:

I can't believe nobody else has caught on to this. @henapple went ahead and bought the whole dayum plant on his last trip through...Which came first the chicken or the egg? I egged the chicken and then I ate his leg.
-
If RO really bought the plant, I wonder if they will make "OO" charcoal an upmarket brand within the RO family.

I would imagine OO quality had a lot to do with the raw material as well as how they ran the plant. I'm not sure there is any reason to believe they would keep the same pure source of raw material, so whatever comes out of that plant may not look like OO at all.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER -
I agree. What incentive does RO have to continue the process with the same raw material as OO. Just eliminate the competition and produce more of your own product. I hope I'm wrong.Legume said:I would imagine OO quality had a lot to do with the raw material as well as how they ran the plant.
