Leveling the eggs

Got tired of all my oils and butter running to the down hillside of the skillets when on the eggs so I added enough washers between the nest and the egg to make it level. Anyone see any reasons why this would hurt?

As long as they don't melt I wouldn't think so...Chris

Not that I know of. I set my in gravel and have been lucky it hasn't settled. I'll build a concrete platform or a brick platform someday.Steven

I have a slightly different leveling problem/solution. My table sits on my deck which has a 4/10 pitch so it is slight and not too obvious to the eye - but just the same my table is not level. Instead of raising one side of my eggs in the table or raising one side of the table itself I merely determined the amount of height I needed and then made a small metal piece 1.5" long that sits on top of my fire ring at the front. Now when my PS or grate sit on that piece they are level!Re-gasketing the USA one yard at a time

I didn't figure it would be an issue but wanted the thoughts of others here.-----------------------------------------analyze adapt overcome2008 -Large BGE. 2013- Small BGE and 2015 - Mini. Henderson, Ky.

Looks like it would work just fine, last time I checked the compression factor of a washer is near 0%.
I was thinking of the same solution @RRP suggested, I've done that for years in my gasser, rather than level the whole grill, I just level the grid.Delta B.C. - Whiskey and steak, because no good story ever started with someone having a salad! -
4/10???? You mean 1/4 /10?RRP said:I have a slightly different leveling problem/solution. @pgprescott - has to be 1/4" per 10'. 4" per 10" is pretty steep for a patio-----------------------------------------analyze adapt overcome2008 -Large BGE. 2013- Small BGE and 2015 - Mini. Henderson, Ky.

I meant a 4 inch drop over a 10 foot span. Did I say it wrong?pgprescott said:

Nope you said it right. That just seems steep. Generally we see 1/4" per 1'. 10' would equal
2 1/2" of drop. I bet the water runs off with no problem, huh??
I I like your idea of leveling the grid. I may look into that.-----------------------------------------analyze adapt overcome2008 -Large BGE. 2013- Small BGE and 2015 - Mini. Henderson, Ky. -
That is too steep to be ADA compliant. Oh well, I guess you won't ever be able to turn your place into a B&B. Anyway, I was just curious. Carry on.

Well, that deck is now 36 years old and my property slope there drops off 70 feet to a creek below. Maybe after 36 winters here in Illinios of heaving and settling it has now sunk to the 4" and never started that way. I had it built at the same time by the same professional builder. I know the type of concrete pilings they poured then were different than those poured with forms with flared bottoms used today so it probably has sunk. Just the same my small riser solution is only about 1/2" thick and of course the table and eggs are on the foundation end of that 10 feet, so the drop isn't as severe as clear out 10 feet away!Mattman3969 said:Nope you said it right. I don't worry about it... I rotate my egg on the driveway depending on wind direction. (usually try to keep the air vent out of direct wind unless I am doing pizza, then it is into the wind

I believe his concern was this - Got tired of all my oils and butter running to the down hillside of the skillets when on the eggs.onedbguru said:I don't worry about it... Correct again @rrp. Pizza, burgers, steaks don't mind leaning to the left. Lol-----------------------------------------analyze adapt overcome2008 -Large BGE. 2013- Small BGE and 2015 - Mini. Henderson, Ky.

I have the same issue, never really thought about it until this thread, now it's going to bug me.THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER -
Lol @legume. The washers worked great last night. The melted butter stayed at an even depth when cooking some fish.-----------------------------------------analyze adapt overcome2008 -Large BGE. 2013- Small BGE and 2015 - Mini. Henderson, Ky.
