Fine tuning for fall.  My first "robin hood" today at 20 yds.

2015 Hoyt Carbon Spyder ZT34 Long Draw Bone Collector.  31" draw, 65lb draw weight.
Hoyt QAD camo rest, Hoyt quiver, Bee Stinger stabilizer.  HHA single pin slider sight.

Used the Edge Pro Apex Chosera stones to tighten up the carbon steel G5 Montec broadheads.
Can hardly wait to pimpslap a doe. hahaha

Thanks, Lil Focker's bow will be in soon thanks to a "performance bonus".  Looking forward to some indoor range time with him around x-mas. ;)

That'll definitely let you get your Pimp hand slap all up on a Doe or a Buck. Nice!

Thanks bud.  It will be an epic day when I harvest a deer on the same soil as my ancestors.  Grandfather, his twin brother, father, and uncle hunted and trapped the same land that is now a wildlife preserve.

That's an awesome heritage to put your footprints into. I miss hunting. I get super jelly when I see all my bros on FB, Twitter etc on there hunts during the Fall & Winter. But, likewise them with my Seafood  and cooking so I guess it goes both ways. I just miss the camaraderie & challenge of the hunt. That's pretty sick (indoor bow range...never seen one).

Awesome looking rig, nephew is a big "Hiawatha" hunter. He has a number of different "bows" and like you, shares his knowledge with his boys. Expensive pastime as I recall, had one rig that was almost $2K.... I recall my niece being very unreasonable about it - even more expensive than egging!

Nice! I haven't started punching paper yet but fall will be here before we know it. Do you know what it's pushing on a chrono?

Sweet rig. Don't know anything about bows, but ever since Rambo I've thought they were hella cool.

    Thanks guys

    @RiverDoc,
Maxed out is around 340fps.  Hoping to maybe get close to that (70lbs) by fall.

Switched to a thumb release last week, trying not to punch myself before hitting 70.

Great point Husker, every location has its advantages/disadvantages.  Kick myself for waiting 38 years to truly enjoy the fall harvest here.  My dad pushed baseball, football, basketball, and I do not regret any of that.  After high school, reality is, that dream comes to an end.  I still play basketball and softball.  But archery is dynamic, and life long.  And if it isn't his thang, I have a nice backup bow I could use for bowfishing carp. lol

That is awesome! The realese is spooky until you hit the break away, I had a trigger malfunction in a shop a few years back and I buried an arrow in their wall (well above where their target bags were) enjoy your new set-up. And congrats on being able to hunt that same land that is worth it all.

    Thanks.

Even with a heavy trigger, keeping the wrist straight during the draw is part of the mental checklist.  Never realized how dangerous shooting a compound could be, until I started shooting one.

One of the guys at the shop just started using a back tension release.  He put one through the ceiling when I was there during his first lesson. lol
Completely different element using dynamic tension and surprise firing.  The laws of physics in archery is fascinating.

Nice rig and nice shot.  Robin hoods are cool but expensive!

Time to start shooting at different spots with each arrow ;)

@Focker- Awesome rig man. She is a beauty. I used a back tension release for years. Once you get use to them, there is no going back. They are tricky at first, but once you are accustom to them you will love them. Enjoy that new rig.

I do, but on my last round, I decided to see how tight my group was at 20 yds by shooting at the middle target.  3rd shot I saw my nock fly through the air and bounce on the floor.  Was kind of bittersweet chucking away $25-$30 on a robin hood souvenir.  The shop is lined with hundreds of them tagged with the name and date.  Walls are filled with 300 papers too.

With this sight, it has to be dialed in to a number at 20 yds and 60 yds.  Subtract the greater number from the lesser, and use that number tape for the dial.  Should be accurate by the yard up to 60.  Waiting for the wind to die down before walking out to 30, 40 etc.

Thanks bud.  With muscle tension causing wobble/movement, I see why the serious target shooters use them by letting the bow shoot itself.

@Focker- Sadly due to nerve issues, I no longer can use a back tension release. I have been forced back to a trigger. But when I was ok, the back tension was it for me.

  • Nice rig. Find a club with a 3D course. And I love the feeling of taking a dear with a bow. Makes you work for it.

Thanks.  Looking into a great local club, Davenport Valley Archers.  Plan to do some 3D shoots over the summer.

Couldn't agree more about the bow challenge.  Really no comparison to shotgun or rifle.  That feeling, is why I dove into the sport.  I'm clearly a meat hunter.  =)
