I also put in an order late last week and got the same email. I've placed several orders with firecraft before and this is the first time I've received a back order notice. Certainly not typical.

Maybe be all the people who normally would get Ozark oak switched their order to Rockwood?

Not to worry, they're restocked as of today.

Their system always gives us 2 weeks once the purchase order is generated--we ship the same day we receive the PO, and it only takes a few days to get there.

  • not typical but i just got the same email.

  • These guys are the bomb by the way. I added $79 to my order and they said the other one was packed up already but they would add this to my original order to get the free shipping on everything. I didn't even ask.

I love Firecraft. I left some stuff off of my order last week, and I called them and they added it without any hassles at all. +1 for great customer service.

From the other side of the transaction, as a vendor, they're great to deal with as well.

I ordered 2 bags of Rockwood from Firecraft Saturday night. Got an email telling me it was on backorder on Monday, with an estimated in stock date of 3/25. I got the delivery on Tuesday (3/17-I live near by). So it shouldn't be long.

On the other hand, I also ordered a iGrill 2 and Plowboys Yardbird, those are still on back order. Not everything takes a day to restock.

So, you received 80 pounds in one box?!?
I wonder if they ship 100 pounds in one box.
I bet the 80#der was kicked, dragged & cussed.

I got 40# of OO in a box with a 20# bag of RW and it was a dusty mess. A box with 80# of RW that was pristine.

Ya, my 4 bags were all crunched up at the top to fit the box. 2 of the 4 had small rips/holes.

@THEBuckeye - was the lump intact? how much dust and small pieces? I want to order but skeptical about the lump quality with shipping. I am spoiled with my last 2 RW orders being group buys.

Don't know yet. Still working on a bag. I'm sure it will be fine but I didn't expect my hand to turn black with charcoal dust emptying the box. Still worth saving $5 a bag.

Mine were dusty as well, but appeared intact. My last order was not as dusty. I will chalk it up to them having a lot of orders to fill based on the back order issue and they may have not handled as well as in the past or it could be fed ex. The 4 in a box are pretty snug it is the loner that tends to be in worse shape based on my experience. Perhaps I will just start ordering 8 at a time.

@GATABITES I've found all of my rockwood orders through firecraft to arrive in good to very good condition, especially given rockwoods relative fragility due to its high carbon content. Every bag of rockwood I've bought through firecraft arrived with little to no dust and an average piece size much better than your normal bag of RO you could pick up at Wally world.

Maybe be your best bet would be to grab a bag or two for your first order, along with some of their other spices/sauces/smoke wood to get to $99 free shipping limit. That way you can judge for yourself if the lump arives in a state to your liking. That's what I did for my first order and when it arrived I had bags of ozark oak and rockwood to try, along with several of the Dizzy Pig rubs that I'd been reading about on here but are difficult to track down up hear in the north east.

There was some very good eating around my place for the next few weeks after that order came in.  B)

Personally I would not blame Rockwood, nor even Firecraft but instead point my finger at the shipper. We have mostly good UPS delivery men, but FedX? Forget it! I've seen that bum just drop throw packages out his front window! Last week I watched him at my next door neighbors house. He got out and went around to the back of his truck and I watched him kick boxes out of his way until he finally found the 3' x 3' x 1' package for my neighbor and he just pushed it with his foot until it fell off onto the driveway and took two tumbles! When my neighbor got home I told him what I saw and it turned out the merchandise was not damaged due to good packing. Just the same - it could have been and I would gladly be party to any reporting needed on a claim!
