New Egg and First cook (pics)
Hi all,
My wife bought me a LBGE with a nest for Christmas. How awesome is that? I've been reading and searching everything Big Green Egg since I got it. This forum is great. Looking forward to learning, posting cooks and talking everything Egg. I have a few cooks under my belt on it so far. My first was roasting peppers over low heat 250-300 for an hour or so, sorry no pics to help set the felt. I let it stay at that temp for a few hours more just to get the feel for the vent and wheel and how they work together. Second one was on Christmas Eve. NY strips, baked potatoes, and roasted cabbage. I was a little nervous cooking Xmas eve dinner on the Egg, but hey I've grilled steaks a million times. Totally different than my Weber kettle. I think I was lucky I didn't scorch them, temp climbs very quickly! All I can say is wow the steak was awesome! Family loved them. Cooked direct 600-650 couple minutes each side with the lid down then pulled them and let them rest a few minutes. I then put them back on for 5 more minutes lid down, bottom vent shut and ceramic cap on. I'm working on photos of my other cooks. Brined pork loin and spatchcock chickens My wife is very happy, kids love the food. She thought it was just another toy that guys collect. She has asked a few times, what are you cooking next? Glad to be part of the Egg family. Happy New Year!!

It's a good feeling when the wife and kids start asking what you're cooking tonight! If you can find short cooks like chicken breast or chops that you like, you can cook during the week some.

Hey welcome and you sure started off with some epicurean delights. What a sweetie you got, I have to give my bride the credit for me buying an Egg instead of some other piece of **** propane smoker (I'm a cheap bastard) like the one I had and the door fell off. They're sure keepers (wife and Eggs) in that order.LBGE - I like the hot stuff. The big dry San Joaquin Valley, Clovis, CA
