REMOTE TEMPERATURE GAGE MAV 222 COMPLAINT AND QUESTIONS
BBQJIM
Posts: 106
I have had a MAV 222 for about six months and my second probe is going bad. I have not overheated it or got it wet. I think the lid squishes the probe cable and shorts it out. Any work around or has someone got a unit that is more robust than this piece?
Who's got a remote temperature control unit and which one is the best? Any help would be appreciated.

I run my cables through a piece of thetmoshield and have never had any problems.

The 222 is an indoor unit, is it not? No experience with it. The 732/733 are the outdoor version and many of us here have them. Wrap the ends of the cable where it meets the probe with foil to shield from direct IR from burning lump. Shelter the probes over a setter leg and do not use them for direct cooks.Delta B.C. - Whiskey and steak, because no good story ever started with someone having a salad!

The 222 is a outside unit.. Must be an earlier model than the two you mentioned. Thanks for the advise Skiddymarker

My 733 is doing the same thing. I was just gonna pony up for a new probe. I wonder if you could seal it against mousture with some red rtv

I went through a couple of Maverick - Bought a $29.00 Weber Remote @ Home Depot, though not wireless, I have had 0 problems and is a better quality than the MaverickVisalia, Ca @lkapigian

I bought a roll of thermo shield tape from Amazon. See comment from biggreenpparmacist above. That should take care of future problems I hopeIt is a shame they don't try to make a better product rather than letting the customer do a work around
