What part of Minnesota are you in? If you ever get to KC stop at Hot Spot Pool and Spas, which is also Kansas City BBQ Source and they sell Rockwood and that is my new favorite now. It's $21 a bag plus tax for a 20 pound bag. I think they will ship it to you, not sure of the cost.bearBGE said:Didn't mean to start WW3 here honestly...I'm from Minnesota and not too many places to get lump coal but it sounds like I should switch to Royal Oak for same quality as BGE is pretty much what I'm gathering until I have an opportunity to browse.

I use hasty bake lump. It is made by OO. I will not use cowboy. Went to my daughter's in the Dallas area and she had bought some Cowboy and her husband and I used a whole bag to cook some ribs. It bruned fast and little heat and a lot of ash. She got it at ACE, I went to that ACE the next and bought some BGE. I go to Kansas City to see my beloved Chiefs and they have OO.

Ok, Ok, Ok,
Trust me on this. Go to walmart and just buy all the royal oak you can. I know what you are thinking: "I am cheating on BGE."
Let me tell you, your not. Just buy royal oak!

The price on fogo fluctuates greatly on Amazon. SWMBO has amazon prime so it's an amazing deal when the price drops below 35 for the large bag. I've seen it as low as $28. With free shipping from prime thats a deal that's damn hard to beat for a 40# bag of lump. -
Find local or buy from Firecract.com. And if you can get in touch with the OO gypsy it would be well worth your time. If not you can get it at firecraft as well.-----------------------------------------analyze adapt overcome2008 -Large BGE. 2013- Small BGE and 2015 - Mini. Henderson, Ky.

@bearBGE
Hahaha I know how ya feel. Think about it this way:
BGE spends all of their time making the most bad ass cookers around. They don't have a ton of time to focus on lump production. You've paid a good amount of money for the top level BGE products (not to mention eggceseries). Now that you own one of the best ceramic cookers on the planet, seek out the people who specialize in making the best lump in the world (there are quite a few folks around here who can give you some idea who that'd be) and then.... once you taste the phenomenal food that you will no doubt produce (and hopefully take many pictures of and share them on this forum)..... Spread the word to all your friends eating with you.
If any of them have a good head on their shoulders, they'll go out and buy an egg (and a bunch of eggceseries) and the cycle continues.

Well damn.... If you have 2 eggs already you definitely need a few 40# bags of fogo lying around. Just so you know you can always get a fire going when needed. )

We were talking about fogo a bit earlier in the thread.
I like this philosophy. I bought a bag of Fogo but it's expensive on Amazon.TN2TX said:ChillyWillis said:I like using Fogo and Wicked Good weekend warrior the best, but I keep a few bags of Royal Oak around for simple cooks like burgers and dogs.

It's very good stuff. One of my 2 favorite brands I've used so far. Plus the 40lb bag you can get on amazon is nice to have sitting in the basement. Get a few of the 40 lb bags and those 2 egg ya got will be smoking for ages.
Like I said before the price fluctuates widely on the 40lb bags of fogo from amazon. It usually sits around $40 for a 40lb bag but it can drop as low as $27. -
Oh yes now I recall! I think I'm going to order some and see what I think! This forum is addicting and I need to work in the morning so I better call it a night! :-h1 XLbge 1 LbgeNeed a new car I can help CLICK HERE I SELL THE BEST we ship all over the U.S.

@anyonewhofeelstheyarecheatingonBGE - Excuse me!! The BGE thing is a business, and as such, is designed to make profit. Nothing wrong with that. However, one mechanism they use is having consumables (and accessories) with a very high mark-up. Just like you can buy a printer, and pay for it again when you buy new ink cartridges. And they do everything they can to make you think that their brand consumable is the best. It actually isn't bad, but it's far from the best. And the cost is way overboard. The difference between @Henapple's Royal Oak and BGE brand is minimal (if there is any). And BGE costs 2.5X as much as RO. Very few experienced Eggers even consider purchasing it. It is not something that should affect your conscience. The predatory pricing should cause BGE to take pause...

The aftermarket is part and parcel to most businesses. Cars (parts and svc) motorcycles (parts and svc) office machines (toner parts and svc) etc. so a manufacturer involved in providing a product that relies on aftermarket items has 2 choices: 1) be competitively priced with those consumables and parts, or 2) risk losing that business or a portion of it by having others be more price-competitive and offering choices (competition) to their customers. Business 101. Just because a consumable has the manufacturer's name on it and costs more than others, doesnt automatically make it better or more appropriate for the item its intended for use in.When I'm not Eggin', I'm scootin' Eggin' and 'cueing from Temecula Ca; an hour from San Diego, an hour and five minutes from Palm Springs, and an hour and a half from Los Angeles (yeah, right. I got my LBGE for Father's day this year, it was a package deal. It came with a bag of lump charcoal, not BGE brand, but Rockwood if I remember correctly. I guess it is to pricey to give it away. I bought it from Elliott's Hardware in Plano, TX, the biggest Green Egg dealer in North Central Texas, they stock BGE lump, but won't include it in a sale package. I've never used it, so I can't compare it to other brands. I do like using the Royal Oak brand, good mix of large & medium sized chunks.MESQUITE, TEXAS - LBGE, Tejas Smoker, Circle-J 24" open pit grill, indoor & outdoor cooking, beer, camping, more beer & cooking...
