Bacon Today

Cooked some bacon this morning on BGE with new cast iron Platesetter. I wasn't sure about bacon grease but it turned out good. I just need a bacon press for more even cooking of bacon. Loved eating on deck this morning.imageimageimage

What a great way to spend the morning!

Well, "spa-Peggy" is kind of like spaghetti. I'm not sure what Peggy does different, if anything. But it's the one dish she's kind of made her own.

The bacon looks great to me. How do you like the cast iron plate setter for indirect cooks? Do you notice any kind of difference between it and the ceramic plate setter? I like the idea of the cast iron. I have been considering getting one myself. Thanks.

SGH, bacon was my first cook but I just did some stuffed peppers on it tonight, which turned out great. The only issue I had was the grate didn't fit well with legs up, they are very thin. It seemed to work good other than that.

Thanks for the feed back. I have to ask you say one of the grids didn't fit well on the legs. Was it the SS or CI grid that caused the issue?

What's the issue with the grid if I may ask? Was considering a cast iron plate setter myself.

@SGH The only issue was that I had to jockey it around so that each leg would support the grate. It"s possible that the grate could fall off the leg for support. I just moved it around until it sat on the leg. Not a big deal just something I wasn't expecting when I had my fire going and put everything together. For diffused cooking, I couldn't tell a difference. The Bacon I made was good but I just purchased a bacon press, thought it might cook better. Looking forward to searing some steaks or other meat on this platesetter.

CI Platesetter seems the perfect tool to sear a steak and then let come to temp indirect without much wait time. And likely a good choice for a reverse sear as well. If/when my ceramic gets broken I will purchase one.

If you cook your bacon on a wire rack it will cook flat. What happens is the bacon "touching" the CI or pan cooks faster than the relatively raw bacon next to it and it bunches up like the lace on a bonnet.

Then you turn it over and cook the raw bits…... :|
