Has anyone ever attempted a clam bake? I have an idea, but was interested in hearing some feedback?

I went with clams and spicy andouille sausage over pasta. I used fresh pasta and cooked everything in a cast iron skillet with a lid. The steam opened the clams up nice. There was tons of flavor. I will definitely do this again!

If you want these items well cooked, but not grilled, from the egg, I'd cook indirect in a broad bottom pot/pan lined in seaweed if you have it or wet banana leaves you can usually find frozen. cook the potato and sausages first .. then add the corn, then lobster, then mollusks. Season as you go. If you use mild charcoal - you will find very little smoky flavor .. I'd be real gentle about adding smoke chips and most certainly not chunks.

I cooked this over direct heat in a cast iron skillet with a lid. It has pasta, andouille sausage, clams, tomatoes, onions, jalapenos, garlic, wine, EVOO, etc. Zero smoke flavor. The pasta was amazing cooked in all of those juices!

Are you looking for a version you can cook on the BGE or any clam bake?
I have a recipe I can dig up which we call a clam bake, but it really just a large pot filled with clams, chicken, corn, potatoes, sausage, spices and a beer. You put a lot of clams on the bottom, stack everything else up top and simmer with a lid on it. When the potatoes (put them on top) are cooked, everything is done! Dump it all out on a platter and enjoy. It's simple and awesome.
(I can get more specific instructions if that is what you had in mind.)
Can't go wrong with shellfish cooked in large quantities.
