Well, it's done. I own an LBGE, but I don't HAVE it yet.
That's OK - I've waited since the summer. I told SWMBO I was going to get one with my fantasy football winnings this year, but apparently I'm not very good at fantasy football. However, she conspired with my sister to get me one for Christmas. Of course, Christmas was in Chicago, so since lugging it up there wasn't practical, I was to get one when I got home.
Well of course the table I wanted wasn't in stock, etc, etc. But now it's all done - just need to stain the table and take delivery of the Egg. Should be cooking within two weeks.
Stoked. And yes, will provide pictures ASAP.

Congrats! I'm about 40 days in on my LBGE journey and it has already developed into a mild to severe issue… ribs, chicken, pulled pork, wings, ABTs, salmon, scallops, salsa, steaks, burgers, shrimp, etc… it's been amazing. You're going to love it!South Florida - Large BGE (DOB: 12/07/2013)

Big mistake. Don't do it. cancel your order.Once you go down the rabbit hole there is no coming back. You will be preoccupied with phrases like raised direct, dome vs grid temp. Burping the egg. Cooking at the felt line...you will check this site multiple times a day. After dropping crazy cash on an outdoor cooker, you will become obsessed with egg accessories. You will want things like turbo grates, and adjustible rigs. Thermapens, and swing grates. Don't even get me started on different kinds of lump charcoal. Then again, I do really enjoy all of these things. It is a great hobby, and a great community. Don't cancel that order. Charge down that rabbit hole. Welcome to the club. It is the beginning of a great adventure.Cleveland, Ohio

I already got a Thermapen, and I nice basic set of accessories with the purchase (plate setter, cover, ash tool, etc). I've already started eyeing the next batch of accessories (swing grid, some sort of controller, once I've mastered manual temp, and perhaps a looft lighter). I love smoking and cooking outside - I switched from gas years ago, but my current grill is so leaky that I can burn through a bag of lump in a few hours, and there is no way I can control the temp.
I'm already planning menus.

Is there a BGE distributor in New Orleans or Metairie?"You can live in any city in America, but New Orleans is the only city that lives in you."Chris Rose

One in Metairie, one in Kenner, one in Slidell, and one in Covington. The more well known dealer is Bassil's Ace on Transcontinental. I got mine from Contractor's Discount in Kenner. Really friendly and knowledgeable about the product and they carry a nice range of eggsessories. Kind of out of the way, but definitely recommended.

If you pick it up at the dealer do a quick dollar test at each quarter point to make sure you have a good seal! My egg had an underbite when it was delivered.

Forget the Looft Lighter and go with a good Mapp torch ... you won't regret it.My PitMaster IQ120 FREAKIN ROCKS!!!!!!! Current BGE arsenal: XL & MiniMax

Green "New Discussion" button at top right. I had to look for it, as I started this one on my phone. This form has a very nifty mobile interface, BTW.

One thing thats nice for the thermapen is the magnetic cover it gives a nice feel and you will worry less about dropping it. Plus one on the Map torch, helped me do the Christmas cook as my cover was frozen to the ground solid.buzd504 said:Tackman said:Big mistake.
