Both boys played hockey - maybe I'll just put on the goalie pads and take my chances.

I would have made the same decision. Except I would have grabbed a CI skillet and cooked the steaks tonight in the kitchen. Or maybe here...

I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

@Tjcoley-Someone should stand up for your willingness to confess and face the music. Not me! You know the crowd-you guess the response...Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. Life is too short for light/lite beer! Seems I'm livin in a transitional period. CHEETO (aka Agent Orange) makes Nixon look like a saint.

Two words: Micro Spikes. Walked down to 2 mile sheet of ice into the Grand Canyon a few days ago without a worry. (Back packing gear becomes BGE gear. I wonder if my wife will buy that idea for more toys!)

Of course it works. I've been doing it for a couple of years now. Also works with a Smokey Joe or Alton Brown's flower pot smoker. I've done them all. Nice and warm in my living room. Don't forget to open the flue though.DMW said:Does that actually work? If so, I think I could see a fireplace coversion in my future.

I never thought I would be jealous of a smaller egg but I would sure like one in the fire place right now.

I wussed out tonight too. Had a soup cook planned and asked myself why I was messing with the egg with the weather so crappy. Did it on the stove - but I did use my CI dutch oven. Will fire up the egg later in the week when the cold snap passesXLBGE, Small BGE, Homebrew and GuitarsRochester, NY

You may have just sold a buttload of Minis for the Mothership. The average life expectancy of a (russian) soldier on the (Ukranian) front line during an assault is 20-35 minutes.

I had the same weather. Took down Christmas decorations and pulled all the boxes from presents/deliveries along with the rest of the recycling to the curb for pickup tomorrow(pickup is every other Monday). Quite the adventure.
I pulled a good dinner out my ass. I was quite amazed at how it turned out. I had about 6 lbs of country-style ribs(cut up pork shoulder) that I was going to do chili Verde with. Unfortunately, toddler-dom got in the way and I ran out of time. I put rub on the ribs and ran the egg up to 350. Went grocery shopping and 90 minutes after putting them on the temp was 190 to 195. The came out like a cross between rib meat and pulled pork. I served the with Boston lettuce and coleslaw to make lettuce wraps with. Good stuff. -
@Carolina_Q. I thought about using the CI skillet in the kitchen, but don't have much of a ventilation system over the stove and didn't want to deal with the smoke from searing. Will probably end up doing them on the Egg tomorrow when the temp drops below zero. High of 45 should get rid of the ice, followed by a low of zero tomorrow night. Hoping for a window where I can get the Egg open and cook up the filets.__________________________________________It's not a science, it's an art. And it's flawed.- Camp Hill, PA

Tj, I feel your pain. I had to put a sweatshirt on last night, and almost went for some shoes when I was working on the pool and hot tub today.

Carolina Qneat ideas, dumb question: guess I should open both the flue and the fresh air inlet vent on the fireplace floor, right? time to dig this out from the garden shed ...

What is the risk of Carbon Monoxide issues burning charcoal inside? I wouldn't think a fireplace would draft the same with a charcoal fire as it does with a wood fire.__________________________________________It's not a science, it's an art. And it's flawed.- Camp Hill, PA -

Beats me. A fireplace is for wood fires. I figured charcoal is (or was) wood so it should be fine. I've done it several times and I'm still here... but then, my house is drafty as hell. Lots of fresh air! If it worries you, get a CO detector. I don't have one myself.Tjcoley said:What is the risk of Carbon Monoxide issues burning charcoal inside? This pic is awesome. Can I get EXIF data? -
The opening that I assume you are referring to is not a fresh air inlet. It is for ash removal after a fire. Regardless, love your Sputnik!!! Go for it.Canugghead said:Carolina Qneat ideas, dumb question: guess I should open both the flue and the fresh air inlet vent on the fireplace floor, right? time to dig this out from the garden shed ...
