Band movement?

Ok... so I'm back here again with the same problem of bands slipping after a high heat (600-800 deg) pizza cook.My bands are tight and everything is the way is supposed to be but my bottom band moved downward and I had to loosen the bottom bolt and reposition the band again...grrrrrrr!!!

So tired of this problem...can you position the bottom band as low as it can go on the egg,down to the lip on the egg itself than the lower band would not be able to slip down? The only issue would be no being able to stretch the top band up enough from this position to clear the top gasket?


Do you guys have to reposition and tighten after your high temp cooks too??

Opinions/tips???

    bge would frown on this but one of my eggs i tightened the bolts while the egg was cruisin at 500 degrees or so and havent had a problem since. no torque wrench, just snugged them up til they started to bend

    So when the egg and bands are hot the ceramic and metal expands (gets larger) right??
    So would tightening while hot make the bolts tighter once cooled?

    it does get tighter so you have to be careful that the bolts dont snap when it cools down, but i think the bands just found a way to nestle in better tightening as they cooled. as a side note, after doing that ive had the bands off several times and have not had that problem again unless going up to extreme temps between 1000 and 1200. bge wont recommend that and i dont either, buyer beware, but it was something i had to try with that egg, none of my others had that problem

    This is something you should not have to put up with. You have tried everything that you can possibly do to make it work, not make it right, just make it work. 
    What does your dealer say? Assume if they don't know, Northwinds Marketing Inc (Canadian Distributor) might be able to help. BGE Canada should either provide a fix or replace your egg, IMHO.
    As noted on this forum, many of us have not touched our bands, other than the occasional check, for years. You seem to have the issue after every high temp cook. 
    You have, in good faith, paid a premium price for what appears to be a mediocre faulty product. Good luck.

    Is it possible I have an defectivly shaped egg and the bands will not tighten properly?

    I did notice that on the very back where the cinch bolts attach to the bottom band (the eight small bolts) you can see light where the band isn't 100% in contact with the egg.Now this is very very hard to see but there is a hairline gap in those spots!!  Maybe the head of the cinch bolts is preventing a fluch contact between the band and the egg ? 

    Ill post a pic later.
