My 2nd Large has Arrived- Pix, Observations & a Question

Congrats Jim! Set up looks great....but I only see one thing missing Jim!jfm0830 said:
The completed setup. My existing base cabinet unit has been moved & installed next to the base cabinet for the Large. My existing Large is on the right. The item under the left hand shelf is one of my two Kingsford Charcoal Kaddy.
A Mini...the empty space in the middle would be perfect for it.
Just a hack that makes some $hitty BBQ.... -
miscjames the sides of the fire ring have a slight slope to them to match the flared sides of the BGE. So the fire ring can only go in "properly" one way. I just did a pizza on my new Egg (pics to be posted soon) and the squared notches were a perfect fit for the legs of the plate setter.

Nice Jim... What did you use for the dough. My wife and I are still working on perfecting ours. Our last few batches we used King Arthur Flour and it came out pretty good.

Thanks again guys for the kind words about my new baby.
One of the main reasons I bought a second Large BGE was so I could share Eggcessories. I found out about the change in notches on the fire ring when I ordered my spider. So I wasn't planning on wokking in my new Egg, and after using it today I'm even more convinced this will be the case. The new Egg is about 6 inches higher sitting on its base cabinet. While it is certainly not too high and I might actually like it better for certain things, I think the lower height of the original Egg is more conducive to the motions that you do when you are stir-fry.R2Egg2Q said:Are you planning on wokking in the new Egg Jim? If so, it looks like you'd need the new 3 legged spider for it..
While they do look a little bit like rosemary bushes, they are not. They are inkberry bushes. That area in my yard has 100+ foot-high pine trees on two sides and doesn't get much sun at all. So I needed a bush that could tolerate shade or spotty sun most of the day, was deer resistant, and was evergreen. Those inkberry bushes will grow to about 4 feet high or about double their current size. I was just thinking that it would be cool to have rosemary bushes right buy your grill. That way if you wanted to a rosemary basting brush you just reach over and break off a few sprigs.BENTE said:congrats on your second egg!!! are those rosemary bushes lining your cook area?....
You guys are all troublemakers! I knew there was a reason I hung around here! Possibilities going forward are endless. Right now I need to see what possibilities I have with two Eggs versus one.cazzy said:Congrats Jim! I've always used King Arthur flour for all my baking, and I've always had consistently good luck with it. Their recipes are great too. I've taken classes at the King Arthur Flour headquarters up in Vermont and I can say the classes are excellent as well.

miscjames said:Nice Jim... What did you use for the dough. I'll be posting the pizza pictures in a little bit and I will post a link to the recipe. The recipe for the pizza also had a dough recipe with that. You will get that with the link I post. It was a simple recipe for the dough, and I want to use up the other dough ball before I pass final judgment on it. My initial opinion is it wasn't bad, but it wasn't the best recipe I've ever had either. I want to try it again before I say that's my final judgment. To be honest I was enjoying the pizza so much I wasn't paying as much attention to the dough as I usually do. -
Thanks Jim. Looks like you can get two different levels with your setter, in the notch on the ring and on the ring - maybe 1/2 to 3/4" higher if not in the notches?jfm0830 said:miscjames the sides of the fire ring have a slight slope to them to match the flared sides of the BGE. The fire ring now looks a lot like the way the XL fire ring looks (curved notches on bottom which are great for lifting the ring out). My XL ring has 3 curved notches and 3 large slots for the platesetter on the top side of the ring.XL, Large, Small, Mini Eggs, M&M BBQ Texas Smoke King, Shirley Fabrication 24x36 Patio, Humphrey's Weekender, Karubecue C-60, MAK 1-Star General, Hasty Bake Gourmet, Santa Maria Grill, Webers: 14" WSM, 22.5" OTG, 22.5" Kettle Premium, WGA Charcoal

Hey Jim, nice set-up! I'm jealous you have TWO eggs to work with. I just bought my first one yesterday and spent the afternoon and evening drinking some coldies, watching football, and assembling the thing. I wanted to mention that from your picture it looks like you might have the castor brace either installed incorrectly, or you put your egg in the Nest backwards. According to the directions I used for assembly, the brace is supposed to go between the non-locking castors, and is supposed to be to the rear of the egg (under the hinge). Not sure how much of a difference it makes but thought I'd mention it. I would have never noticed if I hadn't just assembled mine!

Ron:Thanks for the heads up! I'll have to see if I can't find a PDF of the Nest directions at the mother ship. My first Egg came from a different dealer and they offered free assembly. The installer already the nest built when he arrived. We just followed the directions that came with the Egg to install the Egg so the locking casters were in front. Thanks for your eagle eyes.

Voided your warranty before lighting the first fire in the new egg?...posting pics of it setup with a Hi-Que fire grate?

I was wondering about that fire grate too! The one my BGE came with is cast iron with circular holes in it...njl said:Voided your warranty before lighting the first fire in the new egg?...posting pics of it setup with a Hi-Que fire grate?
