  • I hear you but i didn't handle it well and it bothers me. You didn't need me piling on when you were dealing with a bad situation. Thanks for being understanding. We move forward.

Why do I always seem to open up a can of worms? I.just wanted some opinions. Thanks for all of the posts. Frankie, I appreciate you trying to get the firebox taken care of.

I've forwarded the link to the ad to my buddy. At this point, the ball is in court. I'd buy it, but I already have an XL. No need for 2 of those power plants. Lol. Where are you at in Cecil County? My folks own a beach house in Earlville. We are in that area almost every weekend.

Not trying to hijack this thread but I read those posts this weekend and it is hillarious. If I'm not mistaken stike put up a thread titled open letter of apology to BGE or something like that then the other guy started a thread titled open letter to stike and his gang. Fun reading!!!

Thanks, I did when it happened, and I did again just now.

  • Much more talent in that flame war to be sure (not my style). I was in tears from laughing watching that unfold live. The open letter from stike was gold

Sorry for the let down people. Just a guy and his Egg here.
  • Frankie - sorry to hear about your situation.  However, BGE makes it no secret that buying a used Egg is NOT covered under their warranty:

BIG GREEN EGGS AND RELATED BGE PRODUCTS PURCHASED FROM UNAUTHORIZED
RESELLERS, UNAUTHORIZED THIRD PARTIES OR THROUGH UNAUTHORIZED RETAIL
CHANNELS SUCH AS DISCOUNT CLUBS AND DISCOUNT CHAIN STORES ARE NOT
    COVERED UNDER THIS WARRANTY.

Please note: When a consumer purchases from an unauthorized source,
even one operating as a legitimate business offering products in
unopened boxes with blank warranty cards (but is an unauthorized
reseller), they are buying, by legal definition, used products.  When
someone buys from an unauthorized reseller or retailer, or from an
unauthorized online reseller, they are almost always buying items
without manufacturer’s warranties regardless of any statements or claims
made by the seller.  This is the published policy of many brands and
    companies, not just BGE.

It is their right as a business to choose whether or not to honor this stipulation.

I'm not bashing or blaming, all I'm saying is that, as part of doing one's "due diligence" or becoming a savvy consumer, in the future it would be of benefit to research things like this - I'm guilty myself of having bought things on "impulse" or because the deal was "too good to be true" and then later regretted it.

    HTH (in the future) :D

Centex - I must have missed that.  Sorry, was running my mouth off (or, in this case, my fingers) before I read the entire history.

If it was a gift, wouldn't the gifter have the original receipt (or the credit card, or otherwise some way to prove he/she bought it)?

Are Eggs given as "gifts" covered under warranty to the person receiving the gift?  That's an interesting situation if not!!!

EDIT:  went back & read the history.  If your parents still have the credit card they paid with (assuming they didn't pay cash), most card companies have websites where they can find the charge & print it out, essentially becoming the "paper trail."  I've done this before in the past.

If they paid via check, most banks allow you to get a "copy" of the original check (might have to pay a small processing fee).

My point is, I am trying to help & I feel you still have options to explore... hopefully my suggestions can help (or at least prompt other ideas).

  • If you get one as a gift you can register it under the person who receives it. Somehow it's not registered and they put their foot down. Disappointing since mine flew right trough without a question.Mine was legit too but the fact that they didn't ask anything and they are giving him the 3rd degree is weird.

I'm not 100% sure mine is registered. I think it is but it's been 7-8 years

I registered mine as a gift and I don't think it asked me anything other than where the Egg was purchased and the serial number.  Didn't need my receipt at all.

luckily they didn't ask me. I've moved three times and 1200 miles from where I bought it. have no idea where that stuff is.

I actually don't like any dealers close by either. Any warranty claims, for my large, I have paid to get them shipped to me because anyone local gave me a big fuss when I tried to file a claim. It just wasnt worth the hassle.

My dad is old fashioned and hates credit cards and checks.

Pays cash for almost all planned purchases.

My dad is the same way. Unfortunately, he wouldn't pay cash for my egg. He made me do it! :P
