I started with Car Wash Mike's Ribs but I got lazy. I pulled membrane, dry rub (no mustard), put on grill bone side down, plate setter legs up, drip pan with some water at 250° for 5 hours, opened lid for the first time and painted a little BBQ sauce for the last 30 minutes. Pulled and rested for 20 minutes (drove to friends house) and all gone. Will do again.image

    Very nice.
Salado TX & 30A  FL: Egg Family: 3 Large and a very well used Mini, added a Mini Max when they came out (I'm good for now). Plus a couple Pit Boss Pellet Smokers.

i have done ribs a handful of times now and to be honest - i have only been able to peel off the membrane once.. every other time  i am apparently doing something wrong because it never works...  any suggestions?

They look great. Did the edges burn where they hang over the edge of the plate setter?

Start it with a butter knife. Once you get it started, take a few dry paper towels and grab the membrane then pull. The trick is to use dry paper towels.

The place I buy my ribs from sells them with the membranes already removed, maybe that's what you are buying without knowing it.  I called them up after the first time I bought from them to ask for tips on removing the membrane and they told me to stop trying because it had already been removed.  I felt pretty silly, but oh well.

Xlbalco, I also use a butter knife on the small end of the rib but I wind the membrane around the knife when I pull it

Sandbilly, the ends looked a little charred but nothing you could taste. I might put a little foil under just the ends next time

There are actually 2 membranes. The one directly on the bone is white and the membrane covering that is clear and very thin. You only want to pull the clear. If your are digging your knife to the bone, you've gone too far and that membrane comes off in pieces and will wear you out. It's totally edible and not "pullable" so try to find a little spot where you can dig just the clear part off then grab that with a dry paper towel and the whole thing should come right off. Once you get it, it's easy. Took me a while to understand the mechanics (never claimed to be too bright) but now it's 10 seconds and done.

Kroger has previously frozen baby backs for $2.99 a pound this week!  You'll have to pull the membrane on those.

The DudeThis is a very complicated case, Maude. You know, a lotta ins, lotta outs, lotta what-have-you's. And, uh, lotta strands to keep in my head, man. Lotta strands in old Duder's head. Luckily I'm adhering to a pretty strict, uh, drug regimen to keep my mind, you know, limber.

Walter SobchakNihilists! *uck me. I mean, say what you want about the tenets of National Socialism, Dude, at least it's an ethos.

@XLBalco, I got a 3 pack of loin back ribs from Sam's Club and 2 of the ribs were with the membrane and 1 was without. I don't know how odd that is as it was my first time buying ribs.

I hate "previously frozen" anything. If it was ever frozen, give it to me frozen. If it was never frozen I want to try to cook it ASAP. If it ever gets frozen I want to take advantage by either stocking up, or thawing it at that last minute for freshness. You can't refreeze meat!

The worst is previously frozen Tuna! You have to freeze it at -4°F for 24 hours prior to eating it raw to be safe. If it is "previously frozen" it has to be cooked well done and might as well be canned tuna.
I finally took the plunge and bought my large Big Green Easter Egg from Roswell Hardware in Roswell, GA 03/31/2012
