OMG OMG OMG Crap can't believe this is happening! Went out and just got done cleaning out my Egg to get ready for some pizza. Had the fire box all cleaned up ( as well as bottom of egg) and was just lowering it into the Egg. I barely tapped the side of the inside of the Egg with the firebox as I was lowering and it just disintegrated! The bottom half of the firebox just collapsed and fell the rest of the way into the Egg and I was just left holding the ring of what was left of it. PANIC PANIC PANIC PANIC PANIC!!!!! I just bought this used from a good friends boss 3 or so months ago. GGGAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!

  •  Did it have cracks before? They may replace it but they don't normally for units bought used. They just replaced all of mine and did not ask if it was new or used. Disappointing.

  • I can see the pics by the way. That had to have had a crack all the way around. Way too clean a break for it to be dropped or something like that. You may have a shot at getting them replaced but you can buy a new ring if you have to. Not sure how much they are but shouldn't be too bad.

Bummer.  Can you piece it together and use it until you get a replacement?  That should be a warranty item.  Mine is cracked but I still use it.

Ya I had noticed some hairline cracks in it before but they were very fine. My guts felt like fell out and hit the concrete. Recommendations???

  • This will be interesting. I believe the directions for "building the egg" state that once the fire box and fire ring are in place they should not be removed. It goes on to say cracks will appear, blahdy blahdy blah.

"not be removed?" never heard that.

ass for the busted firebox, no worries.  take the pic to your dealer while you continue to use the old one.  busted firebox is par for the course.

fishless has one in maybe 12 pieces.  mine's only in five

I have heard people mention that they used theirs with cracks. Thats why I never put much concern into it. I tried setting it back up to see if it would hold shape to continue using but it will not hold itself up.

  • so I was told that cracks are normal but I had to wait until cracked all the way through before replacing. it took about a year but it finally cracked all the way through (did not break though) and I called. 4 days later my new stuff was here. I would say that yours have cracked all the way through.

There is a guy on here who puts his together like a puzzle and has for a while. It will still work for your pizza tonight if you can get it back together

Yeah, I might be making that up, but I'll check when I get home.

Even though I bought it used? Or just not tell them?

I think I have seen his postings before. I remember somebody mentioning that hey just set theirs back in and continued to use. Mine will not stay together. The base will not support it. DOH!!

Dang. I would never encourage anyone to lie but they did not ask me if mine was bought new or used (it was new). they just asked for pics and sent me new stuff. I went through a dealer, but not my original dealer. I bought mine in WI and have since moved home to TX. They handled it without a hitch and never asked where I bought it anything like that.

Starting to cross some moral lines here now. I just talked to a guy at a dealer and he asked if I had the paper work for it. I told him no, and he said to email him a picture. He said that the mothership generally didn't give him any problems and he would see if he could get me another one. Really nice guy!! Now I just feel bad.

Manual says you can use heat resistant epoxy to repair it and it will be ready for use in a few hours.  It says to look for a High heat non-toxic epoxy.

lol yeah. I'm gonna give him a call back and just order one. Cannot go through with it now. Stomach has been twisting since I talked to him. Just sucks cause it is obviously broken around the air holes and notch for bottom damper. Cast issue. What do you do. Just panicked there for awhile. Thanks for helping straighten out the magnet on the ole compass folks.
Just can't do it. Hopefully it won't take long to get one.

i have always found that no matter how badly cracked, you can stack it all and the weight of the fire ring will hold it together.

you ave a pretty big bottom piece. that goes in first, the smallest piece you can let fall in there for a second, as you bring in the third (last) bottom hunk, standing, and put it in its place.  then the top portion of the firebox with the fire ring at the same time.  should hold it together.  that last piece can then maybe be stood up and slid back into place.

mine works, and i know fishless' does.  and his is the worst i have ever seen

this is mine (top right is the fire box. low left is the fire ring)

  • Looks like you have nice clean pieces. I put mine back together about like yours using Rutland refractory cement and used it for a long time. Finally ordered a new one through a dealer for $125 (large). I kept my old one for a back up.

LOL oh now the truth comes out. Its all hitting me at once, lol. I am in the middle of a Poli Sci class right now and we just covered moral absolutism vs. moral relativism. My head is spinning, lol. In one hand I am looking at the flies in my wallet and in the other I look at my 4 year old that will be looking up to my wife and I for the next 18+ years!

I have tried several time to make it stand and the break comes right off of the top corners of the notch for the bottom vent. (Airflow). Because of where its at it is not stable enough to stand. When I got it to somewhat stand I tried laying the top piece of the firebox ( now a ring ) on it and it fell down. DOH!!!
