New Egghead here!
One question that I had, was about the gasket. Mine has started to peel off from the back edge, the hinge side, and burn up, and I know this has been mentioned before, so I already planned to replace it anyway. My question, is whats the best way to get the old one off? I have zero experience with ceramic stuff, and I would normally just take a razor blade and scrape it off, then put on the new one. Second question, what should I get to replace the old one?
Anyway, glad to be here, and my wife is even more excited than I am, because I now share the cooking responsibilities as I use my Egg 2-3 times per week easy.
Thanks,
Clay

I believe the dudes on here recommend nomex
I'm a noob too so mine hasn't gone yet.
There are a few on here that go without a gasket and say it doesn't affect cooking ability...

Scrape with a razor then use acetone to remove any remaining adhesive. Let the other guys who have switched chime in on the gaskets.Keepin' It Weird in The ATX FBTX

Welcome aboard, Clay. Hope you share more of your cooks with us.
As far as the gasket, I can't help ya. I fried mine and never looked back. Someday I may replace it, but no plans to in the near future.

I would go for the Rutland gasket. Replaced mine a few weeks back and have been pleased. It was cheaper that the Nomex, less than 20 bucks for the gasket and adhesive. The gasket comes in a kit with adhesive but its junk. Go to your local auto parts store and buy a $6 tube of Permatex Ultra Copper. And remember, the Rutland only goes on the bottom of the Egg since it is a little thicker. This made the install much easier. Anyway, do a search on here and you will find tons of usefull info. Good Luck!

I put a nomex on mine and it has held up fine. Use acetone and a wire brush. It makes quick work of removing the adhesive. There is a video on the Freds music and BBQ site that shows exactly what to do. I recommend taking a loom at the video.Mark Annville, PA

@ClayK25 add you voice to http://eggheadforum.com/discussion/comment/1174256Then call BGE at the number here http://www.biggreenegg.com/contact/ and go to Customer Support. Request a free Nomex gasket. I did it yesterday. They aren't going to fix the problem if the customers just accept it.I finally took the plunge and bought my large Big Green Easter Egg from Roswell Hardware in Roswell, GA 03/31/2012

Welcome aboard! All good advice here... it just boils down to personal preferences and convienence. to throw my two cents in... the gaskets that are stock are awful.... replaced mine with nomax and haven't had a problem since.

For installing Rutland gasket, wouldn't make sense to install it on the dome instead of the base? Then it is safe from spills and your grill brush.I finally took the plunge and bought my large Big Green Easter Egg from Roswell Hardware in Roswell, GA 03/31/2012
