Congrats!! Did your Costco have the medium or large?
I bought the Medium today at Costco. It's to supplement my LBGE, with extra cooking space. So now I can do all my Ribs on the Large, and a Briskett at the same time on the Medium.

i think you mean facebook page, not forum.
'that' forum has pretty much the same tone as this re: costco.

@Flamethrower. The exact same person posted it on both forums.
I am a member at 'that' forum, but I have zero posts over there so I can only take responsibility for starting this thread.

Again, these Eggs are essentially grey market products. Grey market products don't have manufacturer's warrantys. I don't think BGE should suck it up, so to speak. If they help some of these folks out, that's nice, but go buy an expensive grey market watch and see if you can get warranty service from the maker.

Sorry cazzy. I meant that the person that started one of the threads "over there" also started/posted the same thing here. I got my costco threads mixed up.

Well, to each their own. I won't critize anyone if they find a bargain - saving a dollar is saving a dollar.
That said - I bought from an authorized dealer - and glad I did. Had an issue with the cap and the top dome - had spots that were where the outer layer had chipped off.
Talked to the dealer - they said it was warranty - after some discussion I agreed that I would be happy wiht the a new "cap" and some touch up paint for the Dome. Went by this past weekend, to pick up the new cap - they had also shipped me a top half of the dome.
Now granted - "IF" I had bought at costco - and they refunded my money - I guess I could have torn everything apart - returned it - got my money - then gone and bought a new one....
But for me - I would rather stay in the authorized dealer network given the quality of warranty support. Not saying the same applies to everyone - just my observation.

People expect grey market when they buy from B&H Photo and buy the cheaper items marked "imported" or shady web sites or ebay. I don't think anyone expects to find grey market at Costco/Sams/BJs. These aren't places that run a sale on something that fell off a truck. With the size of their operations, if they can't buy truck loads of a product, they're not going to bother with it.

The day BGE started to put on ties in the office we ventured into a new world. It's the ties damnit.....
Excuse me but have you seen my stapler?
Only 3 things in life matter. Family, Steelers and my BGE!! -
njl, I don't know what to expect from Sam's and Costco. I wonder what Costco says if you ask about the manufacturers warranty. But that doesn't change the fact that they are indeed grey market. Costco should be telling their customers as much.

Latest post on the other forum has a picture of a large with nest for sale at a BJs in New York for $799.

@whiz.
any chance that they are buying them in good faith from the distributor and unaware there's no warranty? sure, they need to do due diligence, but they may not be actively trying to sell 'grey market' stuff

At Costco today MBGE $579.00. The demo was jacked up. The bottom vent was in the back and the hinge set up appeared to be wrong. The band cinch bolts were not in in between the hinge and had only 1 spring. Minor fixes,But it was still a BGE
What a nice first impression.More meat please !! :-) -
Stike, I suppose stranger things have happened. My recollection is that Sams knew exactly what they were doing when they got some to sell, but I wouldn't bet my 401K on it. You would think though that if Costco is going to offer their warranty on it, they'd have to know what they were getting into. Costco did limit their warranty on things like high end digital cameras. I remember people using that as an upgrade method on Canon DSLRs a number of years ago. So, I guess it is a valid question to ask if Costco is even offering their warranty on these Eggs.

This is all fine and dandy.I'm not sure I 100% agree with either Costco or BGE, but I don't believe the comment that BGE can barely make enough to get them to the authorized dealer, yet Costo managed to get a couple hundred and nobody in the company knows about it.C'mon. If BGE was selling volume like say, Apple, I might believe that, but this is clearly a coordinated effort between someone and somebody.

oh i agree it's certainly valid to ask. i would love to have some knowledgeable guy (like yourself) trundle into a costco and ask some 'simple' questions of the manager or saleperson. hahaha

I don't do Costco, although for this I might, lol. I went in to take a look around and they treated me like I should have an ankle monitor on me or something.

I bought a Movado watch from Costco and inside the box was a note that stated any and all warranty claims should go through the Costco warranty department. I haven't, unfortunately, found an egg near me but I wonder if it may have a similar notice.

I asked Costco about the warranty issue - the manager played shocked and dumb and said anything coming into Costco would be a legit non-grey market product and would be covered by warranty.
He also said to keep documentation of anything about this from the company HQ, but to rest assured that Costco's return policy on this would hold. Who knows. I'm very interested to see how this all plays out.A local "authorized" store was selling a demo unit for more than this one taxes in with no nest/tables. Tough call. -

It doesn't have anything like that.It has the Egg book, warranty card, and documentation. It has a dated inventory/QC form or checklist that has been checked off by someone at BGE around November 2011 if I remember correctly....It was boxed and shipped very recently. Again, the whole idea that they had no idea just smells funny. Are many companies often losing trucks with hundreds of 150lb items????? I guess if you watched the Wire, you know that crates and shipments went missing all the time :-) the plot thickens. -
This is probably the work of a distributor. So of course, these Eggs would be just as they come from the factory. I'd wonder how many Eggs do you think a large distributor could get his hands on? At this time of year (just about to be BBQ season), maybe a large order from a large distributor might not seem out of line to BGE. I'm still not ready to think that BGE had a knowing part in this.

OK, So lets see hands on who would buy from Costco or who wouldnt and stay true to BGELET'S EAT

if i could justify a second egg, i would pick up a medium from costco. but i sure wish we had egg fests in Michigan!

My dealer is excellent, and I wouldn't even think about getting this from Costco. I want the warranty on a component basis. I like Costco, but there are just certain things you don't buy there. After reading about this fiasco, I have to now wonder about the legitimacy of some of Costco's other big items.

I agree. It is amazing to me that the unknowing customer gets held responsible for problems in the BGE distribution channel. The customer is the only party in this mess that did nothing wrong!OTOH, I'm of the opinion that BGE should suck it up and stand behind their product. If Costco's all over the place have these, some distributor must have just ordered many truck loads of MBGEs. I don't see how BGE can plausibly claim that they didn't know they were destined for a "big box" store. Who else orders that many at a time?- BGE screwed up selecting this distributor/dealer, and made $$ selling them a ton of MBGEs.
- The distributor broke an agreement with BGE and sold to Costco, and made $$ selling a ton of MBGEs.
- Costco knowingly bought products they know won't be warrantied, and will make $$ selling a ton of MBGEs.
- The customer? Well this poor SOB just paid good money for a MBGE. Let's screw him.
-
From what I known BGE has several distributors that handle their regions. How did some eggs end up in Canada, some in California, and I saw them in my Costco in Georgia. Also on the other forum they are showing up in BJs now. This is way more than a distributor selling a shipment this expands across the border. However this happened BGE punishing the customer with no warranty is the wrong approach in my opinion.
