If someone had bought a car from you, private sale. Yet, they didn't have a driver license. They drive down the road and get in a wreck. Should you be responsible for the damages? Unless BGE comes out and says they knew about this, they don't have to cover anything. BGE clearly states that. Ignorance isn't an excuse, you should know the product you are buying. Especially a large purchase.

I just received my BGE as a gift; my wife brought it at Costco.  All i know is i have a BGE egg and i'm happy with it( VERY, VERY happy) i've been waiting 3 years for this moment. I can also tell you my local dealer also made money; by me dropping $400 in eggccessories, and future accessories, charcoal, tips and advice.

If the BGE company don't want to cover my egg because it was purchased @ Costco is absurd.  Do any of you out-there in cyber land think of me any different because i'm a Costco egg owner?

Rzeancak, no we don't think you are any different.  However, the warranty costs on an Egg are spread across the dealer, the distributor and the company, paid for out the the profit that each level makes.  (I had a chat with my dealer.) The Eggs sold at Costco don't have any dealer or distributor absorbing their share of the warranty cost, so BGE would have to absorb it all.  BGE has always said that only Eggs from authorized dealers have a warranty.  Maybe it is or isn't reasonable to expect someone buying at Egg at a huge discount to ask why and perhaps look into it. But the fact remains that you bought a grey market product that isn't covered by a warranty.  If BGE decides to do something to help buyers of Costco Eggs, that would be great, but their policy is clear and has been on their website for years for all to see.  Frankly, I'd call BGE and ask them directly if they are planning to do anything to help out those the bought the Eggs and didn't know they were grey market.  If not, and if you aren't happy not having a warranty, then return it and buy one that does have a warranty from a dealer.  Good luck, whatever you decide to do.

I stopped by my local Costco again today, and they don't appear to have sold any MBGE's yet (other than the one I bought when I first saw them).  It occurred to me today, that the "presentation" isn't helping.  Their display unit isn't built as badly as I've read about some others being...but the top was not quite properly tightened, and it makes the top/hinge seem kind of flimsy.  They also have it sitting right next to a giant gas grill.  I suspect unless a potential buyer is very familiar with the Egg, they're going to look at it, see a poorly put together tiny grill, and think "why would I spend $600 on that?"

Imagine if the cars in the Mercedes show room were put together from crates of parts shipped over from Germany by minimum wage employees who'd never built a car before.  Would anyone buy one after touring the show room?

Our Costco in SW Austin has the MBGE now.  There were 4 or 5 boxes and one built as display.  The Display had the top incorrect the thermometer was facing left back.  There was a copy of Life Style in the egg along with the rain cap.  Most men walked by looked at the egg them went over to the big gas grill (right next to the egg.).  If they don't sell I wonder if Costco will do a giant fire sale.

I'm going to be keeping an eye on them.  The medium really seems too small to me though for much other than cooking a couple of steaks or burgers.  It doesn't seem like there's enough room on the grill / under the dome to smoke anything of any real size.  i.e. can you somehow get a full slab of spare ribs in there...or would it have to be cut in half?

My local Costco has made some progress selling Eggs.  They appear to have started with 8 total (7+display) and are down to 1 boxed medium, and the display medium.

  • I finally located some in Portland. Not having much luck here - started with 21 on March 5 and have 17 as of last night.

I might roll the dice and see if the price drops even lower!

So, those of you who bought BGE from Costco, have you heard back in regards to your warranty, and whether or not they will honor it?

You are seeing BGE's pop up
everywhere. They are now at Freidman's here in Northern California, a
    chain of hardware stores.

Believing the official Company position that they do not authorize these
sales is about like believing the USSR back in the 70's when they
claimed the Soviet Premier had "a cold"... yeah, right.

  • Freidman's are not "Big Box" stores and I think
there are only three independently owned stores. BGE's have been in National
Chain ACE hardware stores for years. They just can’t sell to BBQ or Pool &
Spa Stores or they would go out of business.

How many bases are cracking?  If there are that many the Egg wouldn't be a very good purchase.

If my Costco started carrying Eggs I would very seriously consider getting my second one from them.  Only thing that'd hold me back is if my local Eggfest happens and they are selling those sizes.

Or another large; I mean, who are we kidding?  :O)

Hope they have smalls or minis...

My experience with BGE warranty has been less than stellar. I have a XL with a cracked base since September. Was told no problem then after repeated emails and calls 5 months later my base shows up at dealer and they call me and say it's here bring $100. I was told no cost and if I was willing to pay for shipping send it to my house in less than 5 months.
