sometimes a post takes on a whole new life of its own and unless you set your views to follow active ones you may miss the twists and turns. Dave in Florida added his .02 to the plate setter thread yesterday. It started me to follow up on what he told us. Please jump on to the wagon at this later point:

RRP: I was just on that website, and as you typed this, was going to make a post myself! I think we will be jumping on the band wagon here, too... Did you order some?
-
Just curious where you guys ordered from......
-
I haven't tripped the trigger yet as I've found prices range like crazy at different sites - I'm still looking.Re-gasketing America one yard at a time.
-
haven't yet, Jack, but trust me I'm researching!Re-gasketing America one yard at a time.

transversal: This is the site I was looking at, just gathering info at this point. Haven't shopped around for pricing or what not, but this is where I was looking.

If you order, please let me know. I am surprised these haven't surfaced on the forum before... I have been using welding gloves, and as I type, am nursing a dime sized blister on a finger tip because they've needed to be replaced for a while. -
Same here...Keep me posted if you don't mind!
-
Me too, LC. If they perform as advertised, they'd be great. Wonder if there are different sizes, or if one size fits all.
-
Jack, in that regard all I have found say one size fits all, but unlike many of the other expensive high temp gloves these are always stated as in pairs vs. one glove.Re-gasketing America one yard at a time.
-
Ron, I have not found a pair of gloves or BBQ mitts that I've been satisfied with. So, please keep me posted on your findings. If they pass muster with you, just lemme know where to order.

I am doing the same, researching. If they work as advertise I plan on buying a pair. So far I cannot find anything negative yet.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Thanks, Dave. Are they cloth outers?
-
Are these gloves one-time use, disposable or can they be reused? They appear to be one-time use. That may get a little expensive.
I purchased these off eBay about six or seven years ago and I like them very much.
I think they were about $10. They are silicone and can easily be cleaned to like new in the dishwasher. More important, I can lift extremely hot grids, pizza stones, and whatever else and carry them at least 50' before they start to get warm.
I think they are rated to 600°.
Just something to keep in mind.
I like the idea of thiner gloves for cooking though.

I'm thinking more towards these. Double palm and thumb protection for a little more. I'm getting a pair, I just can't decide which to go with.

I must have been looking at the wrong gloves when I did a search. The ones I saw looked like black medical gloves. I looked at another site and these look like welder's gloves.
My bad.

From what I have read and take it for what the advertising is worth, wool inside and a "fiberglass high heat combination material" outer.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I have sent a message to Global Store Group in Clearwater, FL. asking for information on these gloves.

I purchased some Char Broil BBQ gloves. Moved the place setter to switch from indirect to direct = 3 badly burned fingertips.
-
sorry but those things are a pos as you just attested to.Re-gasketing America one yard at a time.

Ron, you may have seen these at the Peoria Eggfest.
SJSmith Foundry gloves. We call them "Simpson" gloves. Received them as a xmas gift from my brother along with a pair of welding gloves about 4 yrs ago.
Interior is 90 wool, 10 cotton. Shell is 50 Aramid, 50 Fiberglass. They couldn't have been more than 20 bucks?
No problems grabbing a platesetter after doing pizzas for a few hours at 500-550. Ideal for Eggfests.
One of my new hobbies is restoring vintage cast iron. I can hold hot pans right out of a 400+ degree oven wipe them down with oil and place back in the oven. Usually do a few pans at a time. The welder's gloves couldn't withstand the temps for this long.BrandonQuad Cities

Please do! Of all my research that pair looks like they have the best of all the points to watch for that I highlighted in that other thread. In addition this is a good price even when going first class!Re-gasketing America one yard at a time.

Ron, I am partial to gloves with liquid proof outers...gloves with cloth outers can present problems if hot grease is ever spilled on them while worn. I had direct experience wth that. That's why the Orka's interested me. I wish their temp protection was higher and I wish they were a bit more ergonomically appealing, but their liquid proof surface to me is the most attractive thing about them. FWIW.

Jack - you have email via this board - you might have to check your spam box as sometimes they end up there.Re-gasketing America one yard at a time.

I emailed the company and explained that I am a cook and during some cooks I have to grab and remove a 1000 degree item to replace it with another hot item. I asked if these gloves will stand up to that kind of temp in my hands without burning me. The reply is. Yes, these gloves will protect you within the temp range provided. I am going to be buying a pair of the double palm gloves just for the added protection.

Dave,
I just placed my order. BTW I had trouble with their checkout so I had to deal with Peter in Sales who got me all lined up! He added some more info that these glues are made purposefully for steel plant workers where they are pulling molten pieces of flaming hot steel! One point he added was they sell another style that has a exterior coating so you can plunge your hands into boiling oil. These gloves will not stop liquids, but are front and back can temporarily withstand 2,000° which is much hotter than anything we should encounter in a BGE.
Again thanks for the tip off!Re-gasketing America one yard at a time. -
RRP: Did you order the same ones that Dave pictured? The gloves I was looking at are white, so now I don't know how to proceed...
http://www.artcoinc.com/newtex.php -
I ordered these which are brown and rated to 2,000°. I liked the apparent dexterity and the textured surface. I use my Orkas but these new gloves will provide much more grip and ability more than just "clamping" thumb to fingers!

Had trouble with the site. Called.....can't get a hold of anyone......Then on one occasion, Pete answered and put me on hold til it timed out. I'm gonna wait to see if you have success getting yours, Ron, before I place an order. Thanks for the help.
-
Just ordered. I opted for standard shipping, and now glad I did. They are located in Clearwater, FL, so I should get them the day after he ships.
-
See? I had trouble as well and I told Pete he might want to look into it as I'm sure others would be trying to order as well. I assume you got hung up like I did saying they needed a minimum order of $15.00 - Right?Re-gasketing America one yard at a time.
