Rookie Question

Hello all,
I do have a true "rookie question". I have ahd my Big Green Egg for about 10 months, and love it to pieces.
I do a lot of grilling of whole chicken at about 350 degrees directly over the charcoal. It gives me the best-tasting, moistest chicken I have ever done. My question is; with this style of cooking, the interior of my BGE is pretty black from the cooking smoke. Is this the way it is supposed to be? If not, what suggestions would you have for cleaning the interior?
Thanks in advance,
John

that is just what all of ours look like. 'cept the new one, Becky! if it bothers you or gets oily looking do a high temp clean burn. after you are done using it some time and not a huge ton of lump in there open her up and let her rip. it will go all most white again.

Careful about lettin' `er rip for too long, that felt gasket likes to disappear quickly at 700+ temps. Don't ask me how I know

650 degrees for 4 hours.

Thanks for all the info.
Now is the 4 hours at 650 going to be harmful on the felt gasket?

As long as you have an air tight seal, nope.
