Beli, living out our dreams. :woohoo: -
This past weekend I put a platter full of freshly smoked cheese in the oven to firm up (don't want to stink up the fridge, dontcha know! :P ). Of course, I had forgotten all about it an hour later when I fired up the oven to cure my new cast iron griddle.

Luckily I caught it before it *completely* melted.

We had a batch of babyback ribs that came out extremely crunchy. I don't know exactly what went wrong but they made a horrible sound when you bit into them. Kind of like you were eating peanut brittle. We tried to save them by soaking in some sauce to "soften" them, but to no avail. I didn't really end up having root canal but easily could have. We had to throw away 3 racks of beautiful (before cooked) babybacks. We have since then talked to Carwash Mike the expert on ribs and he is having us call him the next time we attempt to cook ribs. He promised that will never happen again.
We purchased our 1st egg in June of this year and I could write a book on our bloopers but this one really sticks out in my mind. -

Fun questions...I placed a chimney full of lump on one of my eggmates and walked away....it was LIT!! DOH! Let's just say that eggmate (still on the egg) has a nice round black burn almost all the way throught he thing! One of my many brilliant moves.
-
i'll post the pics of his sorry-a$$ brownies for him. .. :P :P

funny thing was, he was actually proud of them!! go figure??!?!?
as for me. .. .worst thing i ever did on the egg was some beef shish kabobs. . .way over cooked and tough as leather. .. i knew i was in trouble when the spawn and my wife first went for the ketchup bottle, then quit chewing altogether. .. .ended up pitching them and ordering pizza!!
remember "IF IT WERE ALL GREAT, IT WOULD ALL BE AVERAGE"!! -
Two memorable mistakes. Once, I cooked a blueberry cobbler in the egg after finishing a bunch of slow-cooked chicken parts. Unfortunately, I bumped up the temp and started burning the chicken drippings. The cobbler smelled and tasted like burned chicken.
The other one? Don't use a pyrex drip pan.

Doing the Apple Cider brine. The turkey skin came out as black as asphalt. The taste of the flesh was great. The skin was throw away for sure. Also a 14lb hen cooked in 1 hour at 350. Yes I checked the egg thermometer in boiling water it was correct. Yes i dried the skin for 12 hours in the fridge after the brine. Yes I did indirect with plate setter legs up with Turkey beer can style in a pan with 32 ounces of chicken broth in it. The broth did not boil away.
Weird RO lump I guess.

How many of those rolls did you go through last year at Eggtoberfest when you were doing your Italian hamburgers? I know I saw you take several to the dark side of done - to put it politely.
And I know someone out there has photos....I hope it isn't egret. -
Max,.....  Grape Boy.... is a Great guy.. met him in Atlanta....to me he is ¨Bogie¨ Humphrey Bogart

Being in a rush to change over the Egg, I used a Shop Vac to clean it out, error, the lump was way too hot and melted the shop van.
-
hey, i always fess up to my mistakes. .. think i probably pitched a whole bagguette's worth there. . ..and chubby is the one who has pictures of everything i've ever burnt (can you say 'choco chip cookies' at the motel?? LOL) . ...but the spawn will attest .. .those shish-kabobs were the worst .. .totally un edible!! . ..LOL
-
first time i've ever been compared to boggie!!. . ..thanks!! (i think) . . ..

But if you get one of his 6 ABTs he cooks on a large at once, those aren't to bad. :woohoo:

Max you forgot that Grape Boy dropped the lid on his small Egg at Ocala last year..
It was too heavy for him to lift with the top on so he took it off. He just forgot to tighten it back up..
Still don't know why he didn't ask one of the kids to lift it for him... :woohoo: -
Really! You were able to get all those small pieces put together like it was? CW, you must be good at jigsaw puzzles too.
-
And you still haven't.. He was comparing Grape Boy to Boogie...
You are more of the Judd Hirsch type.. -
To much mass on the bottom=raw.

Mike -
I removed the firering to get the CI grid closer to the coals. Bad idea as the CI expanded and split the base.
-
whoops. you are correct oh wise mensa man ... .and i'll take the judd hirsh comparison as a comliment... .one of my favorite actors ....
-
Sorry Max...I meant Grape Boy... :P hope I edited my post right???

I fell asleep (ur, post work liquor was involved) the night before Turkey Day with some special sausage fatties on the Large that were intended to be appetizers at my bro's house.
They were the very expensive version. Crab stuffed, with chopped red pepper, and a bit of cream cheeze. $50 down the drain!
I awoke 3 hours too late and stumbled outside to find what looked like split rocks oozing lava.
Good thing my responsible 15 year old made tater skins in the oven.......
