Baking with poppy seeds.

Unfortunately, I deteriorated enough to require a pain clinic likely to my last days.

In order to be able to receive treatment I have to submit to a urinalysis, to check for a list of drugs in my system not prescribed by my pain management doctor.

On a previous visit, the test results indicated I was positive for codeine, specifically. Now I will be the first to admit you may find a combination of the other items being checked, but one thing I will swear on the grave of Thomas Jefferson, it is not going to be codeine. In fact, my personal doctor checked for the last time I took it, and it was pre-COVID.

We figured it out, it was the poppy seeds that caused positive result.

My wife bakes an “Everything Bagel” loaf of bread 2-3x/week, and recently started using Kirkland’s “Everything Bagel” seasonings.  The poppy seed content contained in Kirklands mix was very heavy, so much so it threw the test.

Well I threw the test, by eating so much of it prior to submitting a sample. I had no idea.

Keep that in mind if you find yourself in the same situation as I.

We make our own now and we use black sesame seeds to substitute for the poppy seeds.

Best of luck!
