Better than a KAB????

Just got this in from an Amazon purchase for the SBGE. I will say it is a heavier gauge than the KAB’s I have purchased in the past. It is 304 stainless. The best part? It was $24 versus the $72 from KAB. I have no complaints from my KAB purchases in the past as they have all served me well but the KAB for the small has rusted out after many years of use. For almost 1/3rd of the price I will gladly give this one a go.

Nice!!  At $24 too, almost unbelievable it is 304, looking forward to your long term feedback!

Great price. That looks like it'll last for a bit.

Does that company make any other accessories?

I bought a 304 stainless one 5+ years ago for my large for around the same price. It has held up fantastic. The only reason why I didn't share it at the time as the Kick Ash Basket was still being made here in the USA and didn't want to take any business away. I believe the KAB is made overseas now if I'm not mistaken.

They have quite a few grilling products in the Amazon store. DELS BBQ This is the first time I have purchased anything from them.

Amazon takes a minimum of 15% (and thet have a sponsored listing) and it's at least $10-15 to ship that thing.......not including the box, tape, packing materials, and any fulfillment fees.  Either way SS304 for under $5 in material cost?  BS.  They are selling that at a loss even if it is cheap chineasium steel.  The question is why?

$20+ vs. $70+ ?  It's a bbq accesory, not a pacemaker. Time will tell. Hopefully, OP will report back.

Did a quick search on Amazon.  I didn't find this exact one but there were many others.  More research will be done.

@stlcharcoal I was surprised how hefty the thing is when I opened the box.

Title of the post is "Better than a KAB???", not "Cheaper than a KAB..."  Give it a whirl, and report back.  I'm just saying the math doesn't add up on the price if they're claiming it's SS304.

Agree, it’s either not real stainless steel in which case what’s leaching into to your food or it is real and it’s being sold way below cost for some reason?

Assuming in this hypothetical situation that it’s plated non stainless steel it’s possible under heat that emits things I don’t want to put in my body.

In this hypothetical situation, its more likely that an infinitesimal quantity of whatever actually makes it into your body.

You have a better chance of unintentionally ingesting microparticles from your phone cover.

Best suggestion yet to at least clear up the 304 part of the question!

Which lump charcoal do you recommend we use with it?

While at home for lunch I found a magnet. The magnet does not stick to the new basket. It also does not stick to the mini KAB purchased in December. It does stick to my severely worn KAB in the large and the old one for the small.

Something must've leached out of the old ones into your food, exposing the iron.

I’m pretty sure the original ones were not stainless. The original basket for my medium lasted maybe a couple of years. The replacement basket was advertised as stainless and it’s been going strong for probably 8-9 years of hard use with hot cooks.
