Food For A Good Friend

My friend Jim and I met back in 1992 while assigned to the USS Miami (SSN-755). We spent a lot of time shooting the sh!t in the horseshoe (an area in the Engine Room on 688 class submarines where roving watchstanders tend to congregate between rounds, maintenance tasks, etc).

Jim also works with me at the nuke plant
after I convinced him to come over from Electric Boat.

Anyhow, Jim's wife Michelle has a relatively rare blood cancer that she has been dealing with for awhile, and she recently found out she has breast cancer. In a couple weeks she is going in for a  long surgery, and is looking at chemo and radiation once recovered from that.

I am doing up two pork butts, a prime Costco brisket, and two racks or ribs that will be vacuum sealed and frozen in meal sized portions. I am also putting the finger on our coworkers for donations to purchase a gift card from a local Italian prepared meal place.

Doing up the butts and ribs today, brisket next weekend.

That is the way to step up in their time of need.  All that on top of what you are dealing with with your grandson.  What a kind heart and giving spirit.  Exceptional across the board.

Thank you. As Alex is still in the PICU, visiting rules are very strict. Only two people are allowed bedside, one of whom has to be a parent. Both parents are currently there, and my wife is across the street at the RM House with Alex’s sister. When one of the parents needs a break they come across to the house and Val heads over.

I am taking a break today to do this for Jim and his wife, and taking care of tasks around the house, I will be headed back tomorrow.

I don't care what they say about you at the bar @CTMike... you're a good egg.

Cooking/food is so much proof of sincere love. I am sure your friend and his family appreciate this gesture.

Thanks man. Jim doesn’t know that this is happening as I’m sure he would refuse the help. I have been working behind the scenes with his wife. She is definitely appreciative as she knows there will be quite a few meals for her caveman of a husband (meat and potatoes kind of guy, no seafood of any kind, etc) while she is laid up.

Atta Boy!! We sailors always help our shipmates in time of need, been there done that many times to this day! I'm smoking a butt this morning as well for our NYE party we had to postpone due to wife having the flu. All better now. I'm also using for the first time the Buffalo Trace Barrel Char. Smells good for sure!

Some might say posting your own good deed is selfish and bragging.
But some are lazy and full of *hit.
Awesome of you to step up as it might inspire others.
    Great cook!

Thanks all. Jim's wife also sent me this when she discovered he wanted me to pick him up some bourbon at the duty free on our way back from Canada last weekend:

I think it was the opioids talking. 🤣

I am going to have to ride on @lkapigian coat tails and mention that bourbon is 100% plant based.
