I have the double dutch from Lodge. You can use the lid as a skillet. I actually use the lid more than base. They have a 6qt version as well.

I use a Staub La Cocette 28 cm (7qt round Dutch oven) in the XL.

if you have a camping DO (one with legs), it will work well set on a platesetter. If you use one without legs, and are planning to cook indirect, set it up so there's an air gap between the DO and platesetter.#1 LBGE December 2012 • #2 SBGE February 2013 • #3 Mini May 2013A happy BGE family in Houston, TX.

Just Vote- What if you could choose "none of the above" on an election ballot? Millions of Americans do just that, in effect, by not voting. The result in 2016: "Nobody" won more counties, more states, and more electoral votes than either candidate for president. -
Iron is indestructible - just give yourself a few inches above the platesetter so you don't burn the bottom of whatever is in there.I use my dutch mostly as a deep fat fryer - stick it right in the coals on the ash basket.

BBQ is a celebration of culture in America. It is the closest thing we have to the wines and cheeses of Europe.
Drive a few hundred miles in any direction, and the experience changes dramatically.

I like the Lodges that has the bail. Just a personal preference.

Info you likely already know, but…You can use anything. Personally, I like to use untreated CI over enamelled, which can attract soot. Know that high heat strips your seasoning, so grease it up often.I am in strong agreement with @DoubleEgger’s recommendation.

if i were to have just one, the enameled lodge. but i have several. the camp non-enameled dutch with the legs makes better potroast for whatever reason. only type A personalities need to scrub the smoked outside of an enameled dutch oven clean before sending it back into the smoke. no reason to go high end when cooking in the egg

Thanks everyone, I have decided on the lodge cast iron 9 qt with the bail handleI XL and 1 Weber Kettle And 1 Weber Q220 Outside Alvin, TX-- South of Houston

Thank you for this discussion. I have been trying to decide on a DO myself, but was limited in my thinking that the space between grill and upper level was only 4 inches. That put me down to the annoyingly priced BGE oval DO. Which does have a flat lid to act as a pan, but is annoyingly priced.
Recently I discovered a setup that puts a pan on my [inverted] square open grid sitting it directly on the plate setter. This lowers the pan/DO 2 or three inches and suddenly lots of DO are opened up to me again. I'll be looking at the 5qt flat top Lodge or the square flat top vermont castings.
