...I once worked with a guy that would pack his lunch for work and then put whatever frozen meat they were planning to have for dinner in his lunch box. He said he was killing two birds with one stone. The frozen meat would keep his lunch cool plus it’d thaw before dinner.
    That's pretty smart!   :)

When I worked construction we used to freeze plastic soda bottles full of water and put them in small igloo coolers that we used for lunch boxes. It kept everything safely chilled and after lunch we had cold drinking water.

It takes a largish freezer for this, but I've found that if I store the ice box in the freezer, that the frozen food that I take on a trip in it lasts more than a day longer than otherwise. A simple thing.... Also, I put an old towel on top of the food so as I use it up, there's some insulation.

    Doesn't work well with brisket.

We do this now, especially for camping. A frozen 1 gallon jug of water is much better than a bunch of smaller ice cubes, except for the packing efficiency you get with ice getting down in all the cracks between things. Works great in a food cooler where you don't need or want things to freeze or get overly wet.  Drinks cooler we just use regular bags of ice. Frozen jugs last longer.
    Love you bro!

when going camping for a week i give my butcher a list of what i want frozen and not frozen and pick it up the day i leave. has worked well for years. big items like leg of lamb, chuck roast, turkeys are for late in the week. my boats half sunk at the beginning of the week with food and the kegs. kegs are then tied under the dock for the week in the spring
