I found this big green egg on craigslist not to far from my house. It was next to a shed that caught fire, it was quite dirty and the metal base wheels melted. Picked it up for $130, then got excited about it after cleaning it up so designed up a table in solidworks for it. Its just 2x4's with 1/2" cdx and the top will will do tiles. On the bottom of the green egg is a 1/2" ceramic disk that will have a couple pieces of 1x1 square stainless tubing to try and prevent burning of the lower 1/2" cdx. Also will go to wood stove place and pick up gasket material for around the hole cut out.
Couple of questions:
1) Can I use oven cleaner to get the rest of the black soot off?
2) Think the ceramic disk and stainless will keep the cdx from burning?

Airgap is your best bet. Ceramic disk and stainless will just transfer the heat direct to the table. No idea on oven cleaner, i just use simple green.

Agree with the simple green. Use a kitchen dish brush to agitate as needed.
BGE makes a table stand that creates the required air gap. A granite tile under the table nest provides extra protection. -
Welcome aboard and enjoy the journey. Above all, have fun. Nice restoration project.
Agree with the air gap. Ceramic flower pot raisers will do the trick as well as the above suggestions.
Ask away with any questions here. You will likely get varied answers, any of which will work.
In addition to BGE and Q related topics, the breadth of skill sets residing here is impressive. Just fire away for different options.
Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. # 38 for the win. Life is too short for light/lite beer! Seems I'm livin in a transitional period. -
I used a round concrete stepping stone from the orange box and at an inch thick, it provided a good heat shield. For 8+ years until went back to a mobile nest.

Congrats on the great score and welcome aboard. Another vote for air gap.

what do you think?
qty 4 ceramic pot risers, 12x12" fire board, and then put wood stove gasket material around the edge of the cut out on the top shelf .....

My honest opinion, I would go with round fireboard and three ceramic risers for better stability than four.canuckland

And don’t worry about “stove gasket material around the edge of the cut out on the top shelf .....”

I'd prefer the cart having some counter space on both sides of the Egg. I tend to put the food on one side and the utensils on the other. Also, for the cut-out in the top for the egg, allow an air gap around the egg for the wood, with a little bit of tile overhanging to keep direct contact off the wood, else it'll char. Guess how I learned that.

I wouldn't use oven cleaner on the egg. The ceramic could absorb the chemicals and you don't want that in the food. Most guys just do a high temperature burn off, then use a scouring pad to remove ashes.Napoleon Prestige Pro 665, XL BGE, Lots of time for BBQ!

I changed my table design. Going with a larger concrete pad under the green egg with three of those pot risers. The top shelf will be a stainless steel weldment using 4 gauge and angle iron ..... Once I get the estimate from the shop, and then adding the cost for the wood and stuff will decide on what I do .... cooked a beer chicken and corn tonight with cherry wood, I am hooked

I would go with a round pad. three legs on a square pad makes me twitch. would look better with the round shape of the egg as well IMHO.~~
Walk softly, leave a good impression.
