It's a fairly quick procedure but not comfortable. They'll let you watch the  screen but I'm like just get it done and tell me about it when you pull the scope.

It depends on what the plan is re: cystoscopy. If it's just to take a look inside, you may not be sedated. If biopsies are being taken, then you may be given anesthesia.

You may have some discomfort in your pee-pee tube (urethra) after the procedure, but shouldn't be terrible. Discuss with your doctor, whether a Foley catheter will be placed after the procedure. Its needed sometimes, if bladder spasm is expected after cystoscopy.

Otherwise, its a pretty quick, outpatient procedure. Hope it goes well.

Sorry, probably not what you want to hear but I had one a couple of years ago and it wasn’t pleasant because something went wrong with the anesthesia.  The whole procedure wasn’t fun but at one point my face changed and I grabbed the sidearms of the “bed”.  The doctor said “oh, you felt that?” and he then starts talking with a nurse about the dosage they gave me or something around those lines and then goes: “it looks like the anesthesia didn’t work but it is too late now, the worst is yet to come, stay strong”.  I don’t ever want to have another one.

I think it varies... 3-5 days? If they leave a Foley in, ask for a bigger bag for urine collection. Otherwise, you may be waking up every few hours overnight,  to empty a small(er) bag.

Not certain, but, it likely depends on how much fluid water/fluid is instilled in the bladder, extent of biopsies taken, or resection done. And, type of sedation, if given. Best discussed with your urologist, tbh.

I had one just last month. Nowhere as bad as I expected it to be. They had me breathing nitrous oxide through a mask while they did it. If I ever have another one I won't be concerned about it.

True. But, a much longer tract to navigate, with twists and turns, and other sneaky things.

Endoscopy is done without sedation in many countries. Where I trained, a doctor did his own colonoscopy,  once. He was a legend.
