Rust on cast iron grate

Any recommendations on how to get the rust of my cast iron grate? I scrubbed it with a brush and soap and gave it a vinegar bath.

I'd hit it with a brass wire wheel on a drill."The pig is an amazing animal. You feed a pig an apple and it makes bacon. Let's see Michael Phelps do that" - Jim Gaffigan

The issue is that cast iron requires seasoning not to rust. The temps you’re grilling at strip the seasoning with each cook. This is why I don’t favour cast iron for high heat applications.

Follow the suggestion by @WeberWho above. I cook two packages of Conecuh sausage on my MiniMax cast iron grate on a regular basis to maintain the grate. That should work well on your half grate, plus you can use the cooked sausage in all kinds of dishes. I regularly cook meats at 350 degrees F and have no problem keeping the grate protected that way.Ubi panis, ibi patria.

The only way to get all of it removed is to use an e-tank.

Anytime I’ve encountered rust I just rub it down with an oily cloth (avocado oil here, ymmv) and fire up.Wipe it back down after the cook as well, and it should return to that black seasoning soon. Your basic cast iron pan rules…Large BGE and Medium BGE

Seems to be fine at 450, anyway, and I'd expect 500 or more, based on experience with cast iron pans.

I have a CI grate and SS rod grate. I store the CI grate inside on a rack of my oven and only put it on the egg when I want it.
You might look into Evaporust to restore it. I used evaporust on my daisy wheel and it worked very well.
