Dr. Who - worth watching?

I have always been intrigued by Dr. Who, but never actually watched any of it.  Is it worth watching and where does one start in the Whoverse?

Following.  I have a free month of Apple TV, made it thru one episode of Ted Lasso, got bored, and need to watch something else before the end of the trial.
DO need to watch that Beatles doc, haven't done that yet.

I think Bosch on Amazon would be a show @Botch would enjoy.

When Carol Burnette went off the air (I was in high school; you probably weren't born yet) I pretty much quit watching TV (didn't even own one for eight years or so).  While stationed in Grand Forks (where it was dark when I drove to work, when I drove home, and winter was 8 or 9 months long) I got into Frazier, and since Friends was in between the news and Frazier for 30 minutes, I ended up watching that too.  Think I saw all episodes of both shows.
That's pretty much it.  Since then I just watch news, football, and (when available) MotoGP racing.  I've got a pretty large collection of DVDs/Blurays, but they're mostly music concerts and a few nature/ documentaries.
And the last movie I saw in the theaters* was the original Spider Man flick; intended to see the newer Top Gun and Oppenheimer, but never got around to it.  I'm just not into that stuff.

*EDIT:  Think I made this mistake before; I did see a Miles Davis biopic in Ogden's Egyptian Theater during the last season the Park City Film Festival did any shows in Ogden (many years ago), starred David Cheathan.  Hoped to see some jazz legends in the crowd but I didn't.

I see what you did there.

Many years ago I recommended the movie "Raising Arizona" to a good friend. Known each other for many years and we seemed to share a similar sense of humor. I was excited for him to watch it as it was then (and still is) one of my favorite films.
He came into my office on the Monday after watching it over a weekend. He was seriously a tad upset with me - that I "made" him waste a babysitter/dinner/movie night for he and his wife. He HATED that movie. I was rather surprised by his reaction felt bad enough that I bought lunch that day.
Since then I've always been somewhat reluctant to recommend shows - I'll just leave my reviews in the "I/we enjoyed it" category.
That said, we've watched a few seasons of Dr. Who over the last ten or fifteen years via BBC America and found it entertaining (and at times a bit confusing). I would suggest that you read the wiki just to give some info on the story before just jumping into a random season.

P.S. - I enjoyed both Bosch & Bosch Legacy and Ted Lasso

This is a fear of mine.  Same with recommending books and music.

In my mind, someone getting butthurt about taking a friend's recommendation about a movie/book/music, etc. says something about them.

I thought Caligula was fine for a 8 year old birthday party.

In all seriousness, I agree with your sentiment, unfortunately it seems to fall under "no good deed goes unpunished."

    @Botch

What have you watched so far?  “For all mankind” is a must watch IMHO.  “Foundation” is probably my all time favourite books series so I was super excited when they announced the TV series.  Slow horses was good too.

Dr Who… never got to watching this one, maybe one day.

Nope, I haven't watched it since I last had a working DVD player but it was set in the capital city of Wales.

He is a great guy. I didn't read too much into his being peeved. I think his reaction would be more properly described as strong disappointment than anger which I see is perhaps too strong a term. Because I was so enthusiastic about the movie (I mean who wouldn't like a Coen brothers film with Nicolas Cage, Holy Hunter, John Goodman?) he sold it to his wife for their rare "date night" while the kids were young. She disliked the movie as much as he did and that put him "kinda in dutch with the wife" (a scene from the movie).

Years later when the movie came out on DVD I bought a copy of it for him as a birthday present which he thought was pretty funny (at least funnier than the movie).

Ah, I remember seeing that years and years years ago.  It was good, but on at a weird time and I never got to see all of it.

Since you like alt history if you stick with it I think you might like the surprise finish of season 3.

Awe dang.  Didn't realize it was well into its story arc!  Already into season 4.  Will be lots of nights on the sofa watching this.  My wife was bored by it.  She prefers One Tree Hill and Gilmore Girls.
