Lowering turkey into the fryer without stand

Forum,

I am frying a turkey tomorrow for the big day and dont have one of the stands that the bird fits over before lowering it into the oil. I was thinking about just drilling a hole through the end of one of the leg bones and tying a wire but wasnt sure if anyone had any good ideas for lowering (and lifting) the bird out of the hot oil without a stand/hook apparatus.

Since legs pull off a fully-cooked turkey so easily, you may have trouble with retrieval.

I’d probably just run to a big box store and buy the holder. They’re everywhere this time of year

Ageed, I'd want to cradle it from the bottom, maybe rig a colander for it to sit it, that being said I would not fry one

I'm all in for frying a turkey, but please be safe about it. Stupid people do stupid things with this, and catastrophic fires happen.

I've followed this protocol the 2 times I've fried a turkey:

One additional tip - turn off the burner prior to lowering the turkey into the oil. Fire it back up once the bird is submerged.

To your original enquiry, the bird should be supported from the bottom. If you don't have a stand, you could fashion some sort of truss/cage out of SS wire (or butcher twine) to support the whole shebang.

All of the above.  If the fryer came with a basket you can use that - I’ve done that when I’ve had to.

Don’t use anything you’re not 100% sure of - a turkey dropping into or back into hot oil isn’t something any of us want to read about.
    Love you bro!
