I had some collectable glassware on that truck.
    Clinton, Iowa
  • Wondering if maybe @lousubcap had a few items on that one, too. 🙃
  • What record? He did not stick the landing.
    South of Columbus, Ohio.

  • This would only make sense if the jump occurred three days late.

Huck to flat deserves an award.  I kept waiting for the landing ramp to come in view.

Have I ever mentioned how I dislike the five letter shipping company; F-dE-?  The above performance (or lack thereof)  comments nail it.

Would love the backstory on that one day, were you willing.

@GrateEggspectations - there is no particular backstory to their sustained inferior delivery performance.  The fundamental issue is lack of consistency and that is due to the following assessment that has since been legally challenged and won by the drivers, although I do not know how that impacts their current fleet.
"Unlike UPS drivers, who are company employees, FedEx Ground drivers are employed by independent contractors who work directly with the company. The lower-cost FedEx Ground model has been instrumental in FedEx becoming a force in ground delivery since it entered the business in 1998."
The company misses delivery dates by 1-2 days (8-10% for me) and at least 1 in 15 deliveries make it to the wrong address.
UPS has not been perfect but the mis-fire rate of delivery is noticeably lower.  FWIW-

I have an equally strong hatred for FedUp as the good Cap'n, but for totally different reasons.
Had a note on my door years ago, saying they had a package but it required a sig, please call 1-(800)-fuh-Que! for further direction.  This was about 4:15 pm, when I got home from work.  I called, and listened to their inane "Hold" music for 45 minutes; precisely at 5, I was disconnected.
Same thing the next evening, 20 minutes Hold this time, disconnected precisely at 5.  I had to call the shipper to get them to hold my package until I could pick it up on a lunch hour (it was a rather expensive camera which I didn't want sitting on my step for half a day, with a pre-signed release).

To this day, whenever I order anything, I inquire as to which shipping service they use, and if they can't switch to UPS or USPS, I cancel my order.  If everyone would do this we could put FedUp out of business within weeks; we could also fix our governments within two election cycles if everyone was smart and on-board, so I'm not holding my breath for either.  At least with FedUp, and the commercial airlines, I can dissociate myself from them completely, even if they stay in business.

Sorry, buddy, but on a whim (wild ass guess) a few years ago I dropped a few coins on the very same day and bought myself FedX and UPS. At it stands my blue is up 359% but my brown is only up 111%, but I'm still happy with both as they are in my Roth IRA...
  • People just don't care anymore. Very little pride in a job well done or doing the right thing for the customer. When the fuzzy little misses stump showed me the front door, I was confused because I was well aware of it, having painted it the year before, but when she opened it and I saw the luggage on the lawn, I knew right then it really wasn't about the front door and how well I maintained it. It was all about getting me to pick up the things on the lawn and leave the area, sort of a nighttime landscaper kind of job. So my point is this, here I am 4 weeks later in my new crib (don't ask to see my binky) and I go to the Comcast store, get all the equipment, the turn on my service, I come home, can't get anything on the screen, total blackness. I'm on the phone for over two  hours with the technician, escalation to a special team twice .. They finally made an appointment for a tech to come out seven days later. I went back to the store and asked them to check my.line. Turns out the guy at the register who turned on my service used a date 2 days in the future. My service wasn't even on and I spent over two hours on the phone with customer service and they didn't even figure that out?

fedex could probably run comcast better. comcast has some great policies like....they will come to your house for free, then charge you for it. last time, i exchanged the faulty box at the street with the driver and told him to call in that i was not home.
