This is probably the only movie I am actually looking forward to seeing in the theater this year.

Read a book called “The Making of the Atomic Bomb” by Richard Rhodes a number of years (decades) ago - great book. Went in to great detail on the entire Manhattan Project - although it started with Dalton, Bohr, Rutherford, et al theorizing the existence of the atom, and how they went about proving it.

One of the things that amazed me the most was proving that the implosion bomb (Fat Man?) could compress the fissile material in to a critical mass. Basically they had to change the convex pressure wave from the explosion in to a concave wave to compress the material in to a perfect sphere. They knew they got it right when they were able to compress a piece of pipe in to a straight wire. Amazing.

Thanks @CTMike for book recommendation. I know ya'll think I got the issues, but I also read constantly and subscribe to a number of online publications, like Physics World and silly **** like Interesting Engineering and Archaeological News. I have a LOT of free time on my hands, so I fill it with reading a lot on my kindle, would love hard copy books, but I can't easily held them open with my hands the way they are, but I miss reading actual books. Downloaded a 25th anniversary version of that book. Don't tell the rest of the forum that I understand science, let them think I'm just a messed up StumpBaby. It's worked so far.

Enjoy. I found the first part a little boring as the went in to all the history, the middle (Manhattan Project) was fascinating, and the end (accounts of the effects of the blast/radiation on the population) gruesome.

I see that @JohnInCarolina recommended the same book in the OT forum thread - I agree with his sentiments that the book is a bit of a tome (not tomb 😎) in the beginning, but found the remainder fascinating and then gruesome as mentioned above.

For those awaiting this flick's release, you may enjoy watching "The Heavy Water War" series. The subject was of crucial importance, a the time.

We watched it years ago, when it was available on Netflix, but I don't see it there now. Looks like its now on the premium side of Amazon, and other services.

Opened earlier today.  I will catch it next week but I'm sure a good history lesson and sobering thought of the destructive power that is out there.  Sane regimes do not randomly toss about the nuclear card.

Just got back from seeing the movie. Overall I thought it was very well done with the exception of when they quoted the Bhagavad Vita - I thought was in particularly poor taste.
