what's a few hundred between friends...or how I spent $500 on a new modular nest

$50 less than what BGE wanted on their site. Easy set up and even the cover fits. I feel much better knowing that my egg is more stable

Looks like it would go much farther before tipping over than the regular nest if you tied a dog to it.  (Which could be devastating)

Nice. Over analytical here  :)  are the casters with brake diagonally opposite?

I do not know. Will check later on. Are they supposed to be?

Diagonal may have better rotational resistance bc the brakes are farther apart, more leverage.  In my head, at least.

Also better dog resistance? like I said I'm overthunking this. OTOH if the nest is constantly moved around or pushed into/out of a tight spot then it's easier to engage/disengage the brakes when they're both in front?

Curious how you install them for your customers? At the bbq place where I moonlighted few years ago I sold the first set of modular tables after it was released about nine months earlier IIRC. I suggested to the customer that we install the six casters (two tables connected) with two brakes in front corners and one brake in rear centre, he declined and wanted all three in front.

That's the way I always attach locking casters - both up front so they can easily be locked/unlocked when the object being moved is positioned/repositioned.

I put all the brakes on one side. Some like them in the front some in the back. Once a couple of the brakes are engaged they aren’t moving. It’s not like they are light. If they are stationary, people might want the brakes in the back so they aren’t visible. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Since most people are going to push it up against something I'd want them accessible.  Two on the front corners is all you really need.  Could always have a 3rd in the middle or a 3rd corner you could access, but unnecessary.

Main thing I remember about putting those together, hand tight until everything is together.  Also, the middle casters go on the egg module feet, not the side table's.  Wasn't a big fan of those, but maybe they got the quality up.  For that kind of money one could get a Challenger Spark or a @Tspud1 table.....made in the US and better build.  Again, I only messed with the first shipment of them.

Maybe they do need locks on all 4 wheels?

Thanks, I always put them in front so people can get to them. If up against a wall, It may be hard to get to the back with other things next to nest/table

Why the BGE cover?   is the new nest not rust proof?

EGG had production runs from two different countries, the colors where slightly off and the modular & expansion frames did not exactly align. Putting them together drove me nuts till I found the differing manufacturing countries.

No sir, as a matter of fact you are not. I instantly remembered that thread. Should we start a go-fund me now. 😋

Ok, I had to utilize the search function to find out what you all are talking about. Is it this thread?

As for those that said the modular nest was weak or whatever, I don't know. It feels solid to me. (that's what she said). I'm quite happy that we got it.

Weak?  I do not think that has been a complaint I have read before.  From seeing them in person, they seem very well built and sturdy.  I really like them myself.

The derail into “devastated” had nothing to do with your new nest. That looks solid as a rock. Nola was simply referencing it as the antithesis to yours and for those that remember it brought back some grins. All good
