The NFL should have postposed the game much sooner.  The lack of follow-up from the hospital is not good here.

I'm not religious but I think it's the human desire to "do something".

Sometimes, all that's left to do is use money to express our emotions and to make us feel better as humans.

Surely one of the drivers for the outpouring is the fact that it was seen in real time by a large national audience.  Thus the heightened impact and response likely related to the words of @dmchicago above.

Latest updates on Hamlin are very encouraging.  He is apparently awake and holding hands with family members, according to reports.
