I thought you would never ask!So here we are 20 miles from roads, in the middle of nowhere me dad and my brother at the cabin, dark, dead of winter. Normally you would hear another snow machine from miles away because it’s dead silent, tinnitus sounds like a jackhammer in your ear. and a knock knock.. at our partially open door (the wood stove will run you out at night and freeze you out in the morning). Dad knocks me back in my seat and grabs a pistol… walks to the door… “yeah?”I don’t remember what the guy said exactly but it was along the lines of “I am completely lost can you help me?” Sure but how the hell did you sneak up on us? Imagine my surprise, he had a whole team of dogs out there. He was in a dog sledding race, got off course, way the heck I mean way the heck off course. He lost one head lamp and the other died, he said he lost for hours and just gave up, let the dogs take over, and they took him to our cabin. The reason I remember that story was because his dogs were really hungry and he wanted to feed them fish he had frozen in buckets (using hot water from our wood stove to thaw) before we sent him on his way. So after all that he followed us 6 miles back to the main trail and pointed him straight in the direction of Homer (even farther than where he started but at least closer to civilization and he knew people in homer) , we loaned him a flashlight and told him where to return it when he was on his next trip through Sterling or whatever. And he did.We kept a log book on the table and a pencil and a few times a year people will stumble on the cabin, either in need of shelter or just out playing and they write a note.

One of my friends must have pissed us off in highschool or maybe we were just d*cks at the time but my friend and I caught a few bullheads when fishing. So my one friend and I who went fishing with me earlier in the day snuck over to my friends house that night and placed a couple of bullheads on my friends window sell. (He didn't have air conditioning so the windows stayed open at night. He also had a big TV that blocked the view of the window) Let's just say he wasn't very happen with us group of friends the next day at school.
I guess that was payback from when we came home one day and found a Walgreens shopping cart in the middle of our driveway. (Walgreens was 3 miles away and none of us as friends were old enough to drive at the time) I guess that fish in the window sell maybe was deserved after finding a shopping cart in the driveway! The fun stupid stuff we used to do as kids...."The pig is an amazing animal. You feed a pig an apple and it makes bacon. Let's see Michael Phelps do that" - Jim Gaffigan
