I've only skimmed this article so far, but looks like a good read.  And a story that's been enacted, before...

I bet PDF downloads go way up.  Best way to bring attention and get readers is to make an item scarce or taboo.

  • If you have a Books a Million in your area drop by. They have a display of banned books. Some seem to be banned by the right and some by the left. Some titles: of mice and men, clockwork orange, the adventures of Tom Sawyer, to kill a mockingbird, 1984, lord of the flies, animal farm, gender queer, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. Make what you want of the list.

  • The math books are where all the evil truly resides.  Only DeSantis has caught on to the need to ban those.

We are living in what will be for better or worse one of the most transformative times in human history.  What a time to be alive!

this plays out like a novel, unfinished, of good vs evil.  The definition of those two defines the viewer.

To be fair, Clockwork Orange deserves to be banned.  Exploitive drivel.

The movie is a masterpiece, and well recognized as such. I was drinking beer with a professor that used the movie as a teaching subject.

English teacher senior year of HS taught that movie along with Apocalypse Now (after we read Heart of Darkness).  It was a Catholic school, they supported it.

I'm not a big movie buff, but I do have a favorite director: Stanley Kubrick.  He directed Dr. Strangelove, Full Metal Jacket, The Shining, and my favorite film of all, 2001: A Space Odyssey.  I haven't seen Clockwork Orange but I'm not so much into violence, so will probably pass on that one.

Like many things Kubrick did, the film can be watched on several different levels.  You might be interested to read his interpretation of the film before deciding not to watch it:

The violence is there but it's not the point of the movie.  I found it to be really brilliant when I saw it, probably 30+ years ago now.

I remember watching Apocalypse Now when it was first released and almost immediately realized it was based on Conrad's Heart of Darkness. Wife and I always stayed to watch the movie credits and I may have missed it, but the first release we saw did not credit the author. The next time we watched it Conrad was credited.

My favorite Viet Nam "war" movie was The Deer Hunter: Robert DeNero, Christopher Walken, Meryl Streep, John Savage, and George Dzundza.
