Been coming to the same family lake property for 40+ years. There is just something about the smell of charcoal and lighter fluid in a kettle. Flat iron steak after a few more bourbons. Happy weekend yall.

Fish, Hunt, Cook....anything else?

Oh yeah! My grandparents had a house on a large river here in michigan. I have fond memories of a red Weber kettle and Kingsford lighter fluid and Kingsford charcoal. Always barbecue chicken with kc masterpiece.

Agree 100%. That is the smell that launched millions of would be Brisket Gods. It’s a smell that really hits home with a man. It ranks right up there with a man’s first whiff of, well y’all know the rest of it.
On a separate note, enjoy your visit my friend.

@SGH thanks for responding. You don't remember but early in my Egg days you and I chatted on the phone a few times and you helped me a ton. We might have discussed AR style rifles too...maybe.

    Thanks my friend.

This is why I love this place.  My wife and I went to brisket camp one and Scotty was shoving so much food on our plates you would have thought we were family.

@SGH has said 100 times I should stop paying for a fishing guide when the boys and I go to the coast. I assume you're still fishing SGH?

We will not take advantage but I'll buy you a drink on our trip to Biloxi

Unfortunately it’s been a while since I have got to do any serious fishing. Life and work gets in the way most of the time. However I still love it and slip a trip in when I can.
And on a separate note, the drinks 🍺 are on me my friend 👍

My Dad had a weber kettle the exact same color as that one.  I can still see the brown.  I wish he hadn't gotten rid of it. It was older, and didn't have the ash cleanout contraption on the bottom.  What a grill!  He kept it looking like his cars, which were always spotless.

His buddies used to rib him and ask him if he waxed his Weber!

I can smell that photo!  Thanks for posting it!

@Langner91 I tell my kids all the time "take care of your stuff and your stuff will take care of you". Cars, boats, grills, tools, etc.

I've been looking for a good deal on an egg for years to use at the lake. I'm still looking. But a lot of really good food has come off ole Weber Kettles.

Love going to the state parks and smelling that. That mixed with a little sunscreen.

I always use briquettes and charcoal lighter to get a bed of coals going on my stick burner.  A great trigger to a prior life-

I wonder if all of the threads on the Weber Kettle and Kingsford Blue Bag forums devolve into polit...

    Nevermind.

  • I use lighter fluid to start my burn pile.  Lots of dead limbs and cut down trashy trees to burn.

  • Lots of time and good cooks (pre BGE) spent with a couple of Weber kettles and Kingsford!  Kinda miss that sometimes.

We spent three evenings at a campground with some friends last week (we stayed in the onsite lodge!). Every evening the surrounding campers would pile a bunch of firewood in the pit, douse it with lighter fluid, and start a big blaze. Some kept pouring it on. If that smell had previously held any fond memories for me, it will never do so again.

I put some used paper towels in our pit, tee-peed some kindling, and one match got a nice fire going.
