Looflighter looking rough

The outer sheath of my looflighter has melted away.  Surprised it wouldn’t be designed to withstand the heat.  Anyone else’s look like this ?  Seems to work fine still.  Anything to be worried about.

Goto alibaba.com.   they are $18-$20 average all day.  Various colors.  I've bought several without issue.  Search bbq fire starter.  Most will let you buy 1

Nothing to be worried about. My original one from 2012 is still working though I gave it to my nephew in 2020.

How close to the coals do you normally have yours?  I believe they warn you to keep your distance (can't remember what).

The YouTube video that I watched back in 2012 said. First test it against the charcoal. Second as soon as you see sparks move it away from the charcoal and use it like a bellows.

Try calling Looftlighter customer support, you may be pleasantly surprised.

Its designed to dissipate the heat on the outer sleeve.

Mine looks like that too and it's probably 10 or 15 years old and yes, I bury it in the coals. Still works great by the way but I do keep a few fire starters on hand for when it finally kicks the bucket.

I have 2. They both look like that lol. You are supposed to pull it back a little once the lump catches. Sometimes I forget.
