Ceramic Grill Store helps out again

Purchased a used Goldens Cast Iron Kamado couple weeks ago. Just like the Egg, it’s not very versatile as a stock unit. It did come with the cast iron grate lifter. The Goldens comes stock with 2, high quality, half moon, cast iron grates. As well as cast iron griddle/heat deflector. Both are great accessories. But the grill needed some custom help so I contacted Tom at Ceramic Grill Store. We talked about some options and I expressed interest in something basic like a Woo Ring. Tom suggested raised past felt line enough so I could easily grab the Woo and lift it out of the grill as I didn’t want handles on it. Tom then systematically ran through the sizes he needed on my grill and magically, a Woo Ring was delivered in a couple days. It fits perfectly with my 20” stainless grate from my XL Adjustable Rig and raises it high enough so I can easily grab the Woo and lift it out of the grill. It’s made to use a 16” pizza stone as indirect piece. But the Goldens Griddle also fits perfectly. This new Woo fits perfectly just like all my other pieces from CGS. Met Tom at my first Eggfest many years ago and he has always gone above and beyond to help. Just like he has for for so many others.
Thanks Tom!

Thank you,

You can't beat that type of service! Can't wait to see some more cooks come off that thing!

It cooks very similar to the Egg. Only big difference is the 1 piece fire bowl compared to the bowl/ring in the Egg. I think the air coming through the lower vent is distributed a little more evenly into the bowl this way but seems to come up to temp a little slower. Not sure how easy it would be to reach very hot temps for things like pizza. I have not tried this yet. But it locks into low/slow and grilling temps rock solid. Only advantages over the Egg are no band/hinge alignment issues and extremely low chance of any cracks.
Just another cooking toy to play with. You know how it is.lol

That's a pretty slick custom Woo. Not at all surprised that Tom came through for you in spades.

Hey man, thanks for the kind words, they are truly appreciated.

It was a fairly quick build, just reprogramed another woo leg on the wire bender and used the XL Woo fixture to set the legs in place.  Even surprised myself with how quickly I was able to rework the woo legs, maybe 5 sets wasted to get the proper alignment.

I gotta say though, I am still scratching my head why you want that cast iron beast, when you live so close to the Gulf, LOL.

I watched the Texas Bucket List early this morning, had an episode on Gaido's.  Maybe next time we visit in-laws at Crystal Beach, we can meet up there.

Did a rough temp gauge test. I’m low by at least 50 degrees.

    Thank you,

    Dome versus grid?

They don't track perfectly.  Does it get closer the longer it runs?

Sorry, I should have said that I clipped the test probe directly to inside grill temp stem. Sould be at least within 10 degrees.

    Yes, they should be closer!

Same can be said for thermometers and tire pressure gages.
