Have not tried one, but personally, I think any material that doesn’t crack like ceramic does offers a big advantage. The Blaze has always called my name.
  • They are made here in Georgia or at least the company is located here.  Someone was trying to sell a new/never used one for $1,000 in Atlanta and it took quite a while.  They may be fantastic but don’t seem to have caught on.

I really like the Blaze. It is very well made and the design features seem great. Love that it’s made to take a rotisserie as well.
The Golden is a heavy SOB compared to the Blaze. Both have excellent, solid built stands.
    Stay tuned…

Were I to be doing it again, the Blaze would be my choice.

no experience with the  Golden CI cooker, but I know its been around for some time.

CI is brittle, don't know how this will stand up. Also, the high humidity of your locale may be something to consider.

I talked to the owner a couple years ago. Super nice guy. Expressed my concern about gulf coast weather and salt air. He said the high temp powder coat is almost bullet proof. Same with the 1” thick wall tubing of the stand. He asked me how my foreign made bands and nest were holding up on my Egg…we both started laughing. He said I could sit on the table shelves of the Golden. But it is almost double the cost.
I really like the Blaze but Leary of aluminum oxidation.  But love the fact it doesn’t need a gasket at all.
    Thank you,

The blaze forum kicks as$ too
  • Feel like adding the decision to pass on the $1k golden to the long list of real estate listings that I should have pounced on.

    Dang! You move quick 😀

FWIW, I’d consider being the 4th for the grand sum of a few wings… (only for you, though).

I have never seen any tubing with 1" wall but it does look stout

@Photo Egg - That is taking true advantage of the "window of opportunity" right there.  Looking forward to some pics and cooks even given its pedigree.   B)

A comma would have made this more clear. Stand is 1” square that is thick, heavy gauge material.

    - I do not own a Golden but have contemplated pulling the trigger.
    - I am positive that Johnny (View to a Grill YouTube channel) could/would answer any and all questions concerning either size Golden he owns. You can go off line with him if desired in the “About” section it has his email under contact me.
    - If you watch any of his videos you will recognize right away he has had Military Instructor Training (in his case I believe Army). I enjoy his videos he comes across as a regular guy.
    - He routinely cooks on the Goldens, Weber Kettles and an offset.

    Actually it’s 1 1/4” square tube not 1”.

Cleaning everything up a little today. Wanted to pull out the cast iron lump bowl. I can’t lift it out myself. Even that is crazy heavy. When we have a little shade later today I will rig up a lift.

  • I picked up a new one on FB Marketplace for $300 a couple years ago. Guy won it in a casino contest and had no use for it.  Gave it to a friend, he said it cooked really well but he despised lifting the heavy dome.  He sold it for $900 and replaced it with a large egg.  The two of us loaded it and moved it to his back porch.  It is like moving 2 XL eggs at the same time.

Wow, $300, what a deal. Dome on this 1 lifts very easy. And the dome opens much further than my Eggs.

  • @Photo Egg Yeah the guy didn’t know what he had, just wanted to get rid of it.  I picked it up a couple years ago and I am guessing they replaced the spring mechanism for the dome.   I lifted it a few times and it was a lift that could get old fast.   It is a bulletproof machine, congratulations!!

Looking forward to some pics and some cooks!  Curious how hot the outside gets.

That's downright purty! Love the shelves and stand, too.

Can you show the inside? Is it similar to the BGE grate + firebox + fire ring?
