Beef prices
Beau had an interesting video this morning about what's happening to cattle farmers right now; I hope anyone involved in the industry in TX & OK can confirm/deny.
Apparently there's a huge sell-off of beef cattle in those states, and possibly elsewhere. The reason? The ever-enlarging drought. It's killing pastureland throughout the SW and SC United States. Normally a more-localized drought would result in hay being trucked in to feed the cattle, but:
a- the draughts are not localized anymore, they can't find the hay close by, and
b- the current high gas prices makes shipping hay, from further away, untenable.
One person interviewed even stated that the only way he'd keep more of his cows were if a large hurricane moved into SC Texas, and saturated the area with heavy rain for several days; when's the last time you ever heard a statement like that?
Although Beau didn't state this part, it sounds to me like beef prices may drop over the rest of the summer. Take note if you have a large freezer. What he did say is that beef prices may skyrocket come the Holidays; again, take note.
We'll see what happens. I don't eat much beef anymore; can't remember the last time I had a big steak, and usually follow the chinese food pyramid (one fist of protein, two fists of veggies, three of rice/noodles). I also tend to prefer pork and chicken anymore (still love the occasional skirt steak tacos, however). Just a thought for today.

Maybe Not-Lit will finally be able to afford that brisket…"I've made a note never to piss you two off." - Stike

I have missed a few buys in the stock market and I am sure I will miss this as well. But to the point of brisket prices, SRF's prices have not moved since well before covid.
The challenge is availability-seems they are sold out of the lower weights dang near all the time. I have talked with a rep-the demand is way up. However, get on their email alert list and that option works. You get the alert and hit the site and the brisket (or any other alerted product you ask about) is available. FWIW-
No affiliation here-Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. # 38 for the win. Life is too short for light/lite beer! Seems I'm livin in a transitional period.
