Advice for 2XL on top of granite countertop

Outdoor kitchen is almost finished and the 2XL will be in the middle as pictured, on top of granite countertop. I don't want to put the 375+lb egg directly on the countertop, and know I need airflow below it. Is the BGE table nest the only option to elevate it a little, or are there other esthetic solutions that will raise my egg an inch or so off the countertop? Would also stay away from paver etc.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance

You could certainly reinvent the table nest with the help of a metal fab shop.  Design something cool and get it powder coated.

You could see if you could track down some old BGE feet or buy and paint some terracotta ceramic planter feet from Lowes.

That's a great idea. Thanks for the advice. I'll post a picture of the finished product when it's done. Got power out there recently and got 4 recessed LED lights above so I'm not smoking or grilling in the dark. I'm just ready to use the kitchen and drink a couple of cold ones.

I don't think you need an air gap under the XL.  Does your manual say that it is needed?

Lift the thing up a couple inches and get some LED underglow!

And use an Arduino to hook up a temp. probe to read whatever temp one wants - food internal, grate temp, dome temp, etc., and use that to control the color of the LED underglow to convey info  - temp too high, temp too low, foods done, etc.

    I didn't see anything about it in a manual for a 2XL.

If you're worried about aesthetics, the OEM nest is black and should hardly be noticeable on those dark granite counters.

i remember seeing something years ago about bge not recommending the feet on the bigger eggs because of lack of support with the bigger bottom. not sure if this is still the same but might be worth a call

My kitchen’s been in operation for 10 months and no matter what happens from here on out, building an outdoor cooking space will go down as one of my most profound (yet hardly extreme) life upgrades. Looks/sounds like you’re really making it your own and you’ll be surprised how much you continue to dabble and add new touches long after it’s declared “finished.” Well done and congrats! Enjoy it out there, man.

If'n it was me, I'd check with your granite supplier to see if it could take that much weight

That's awesome.  That makes the 2XL not even look that large - meaning that everything is well-proportioned.

Way to finish it out and provide the end result.  As above, the lighting really sets the scene.  Congrats for the entire project.

  • Thanks! The 2XL was definitely not as heavy as I expected. Took everything out of it and just two of us moved it with no problems.

    Looks good!

What did you end up doing?  I re-read this thread, and folks had some ideas, but I can't make out your final solution from the photos.

Can you explain and show a closer view?

Thanks! I wound up getting a 2XL table nest and just setting the egg on top of that. I’ll try to get a better picture tomorrow.
