I watched an episode of "BBQ Science" where the guy put some pork lard in a small tin tray, left it in the smoker while the ribs were smoking and then brushed the melted, smokey lard on the ribs for basting. I may try.
@skywarrior I have injected thick pork chops with lard. It is life changing. I have never basted with it, but I’m sure it’s great.
