    Thank you. This is a fascinating and difficult story, probably like the engineering was to develop it.
    Does the capability now exist in the U.S. to make another rotor  if it should ever be necessary and the bearings?

    This rotor was pulled as it is being replaced with a new one that was made in Schenectady, NY.

    @CTMike ... faster than the speed of light?  I thought that was impossible? To reach the speed of light, any particle would require an infinite amount of energy to accelerate to that point.

    @CTMike ... faster than the speed of light?  I thought that was impossible? To reach the speed of light, any particle would require an infinite amount of energy to accelerate to that point.
    It is impossible to exceed the speed of light in the vacuum of space (300,000 km/second). The speed of light in water is much slower (225,000 km/second so 25% slower). Google Cherenkov radiation if you want to learn more.
