Eggenius

I have to be honest, this thing doesn’t work more often that it does work. Bought new probes, take good care of it, but every damn time, it’s a crap shoot as to whether or not it works. Wi-Fi, probes, you name it. Makes what should be an enjoyable cook on the bge a frustrating pain in the ass.

Welcome aboard and enjoy the journey.  Above all, have fun.
Related to your above post-  If you haven't gotten comfortable with running your BGE w/o a controller then you should take the time to learn the no controller operation.  Thus when (only a question of time) your controller craps the bed you can still nail the cook.  FWIW-

Never used a controller.  Don't really see the point.  Also, my firebox is in three pieces, my lower grate is bent and torn, and my fire ring is cracked.  I have a lovely leg of lamb on there now at about 280.

  • Plenty comfortable without a controller. Point is, these controllers position themselves as a crutch, a very expensive crutch at that, and they are not reliable.

Sucks to have problems with something that cost you couple hundred bucks.
I have never been a fan of the egg genius because it has no display and depends on a smart device to control. That said, I do own a couple controllers made by the same company and they have been very reliable. If you have a lemon, use the warranty and return it.

I have had 100% reliability with mine.  I only use it for low and slows.  It’s great for overnighters too.

used one yesterday and it worked flawlessly. I’ve not traditionally been a controller guy but to be honest, these FB developed devices give you almost a pellet grill ease of use experience.
  • My only problem with it are the probes.  They do not last.  I have ThermoWorks probes that are a decade old, but didn’t get more than a dozen cooks out of the first meat probe with the Egg Genius.  They are quite flimsy.  Btw, I only use for low and slow and take care routing the probe wires.
